Young Boys were beaten 3-1 by a Manchester City side inspired by an impressive display from Erling Haaland in the UEFA Champions League group stage at Stadion Wankdorf on Wednesday. The striker had two goals for the visitors.

Victory for Pep Guardiola's side also came thanks to a goal from Manuel Akanji, with Meschack Elia on target for the hosts.

Akanji broke the deadlock for Manchester City after 48 minutes with a volley following a corner low into the centre of the goal. But it proved a short-lived lead as Elia, who capped off a counter-attack, hauled the sides level four minutes later. Cheikh Niasse supplied the assist.

Haaland kept his cool to convert a penalty awarded after Rodri drew a foul from Mohamed Ali Camara 15 minutes later that enabled Manchester City to edge back in front. Despite getting a touch, the goalkeeper was powerless to prevent it going in. It was 3-1 after Rodri set up Haaland to put his team in control with 86 minutes gone.

Although it didn't ultimately impact the result, the Manchester City quartet of Haaland, Rodri, Matheus Nunes, and Jérémy Doku did spurn good chances in the game.
