Raum opened the scoring for Leipzig after 12 minutes with the goalkeeper getting a touch but unable to keep it out. The defender finished to the upper left corner after combining with Simons. Leipzig doubled their advantage after 59 minutes through Simons, who netted following a solo run, Raum with the assist.

Stamenic, tucking away a volley, then pulled one back for Crvena Zvezda 11 minutes later. It was 3-1 after Olmo put his team two goals ahead with six minutes left - finding the net after a corner with a volley.

Profligacy in front of goal impacted both sides in the match, Mohamed Simakan spurning a good chance for Leipzig, Crvena Zvezda rueing a lack of composure from Mirko Ivanic.
