Millionarios and Independiente Santa Fe met again this Sunday for a new edition of the capital's classic at the Nemesio Camacho El Campín stadium in Bogotá. In front of more than 30,000 attendees, the 'ambassador' team won 2-1 by the 17th date and consolidated themselves in the top positions of the 2022-I BetPlay League, while the 'cardinals' further committed their qualification to the semi-finals.
Striker Diego Herazo was in charge of opening the score for Millonarios in the 21st minute, after taking advantage of a rebound from an opposing player and 'chipping' the ball over goalkeeper Leandro Castellanos. In 64', Neyder Moreno equalized for the 'lion', finishing after receiving the ball at the height of the penalty point; and, finally, an own-goal by Francisco Meza, at 89', would end up sentencing the result in favor of the 'albiazules' in the capital of the country.
The memes and burlesque messages were not long in coming through social networks, especially from the fans of Millonarios, who did not hide their joy after defeating their patio rival for the second time in a row in this championship. Here are some of the best pieces shared on digital platforms.
After the match, Gamero highlighted the initiative of his leaders to seek victory, although he acknowledged that Santa Fe “was a very tough rival”. “Before the expulsion it was one match and then another. We behaved well, even though the court was not good, we tried to take possession, our start of the game. We had no clear options but we did intend to reach the goal. These are 3 important points,” he said.
And, in addition, he said that the objective is to be able to make rotations in the squad in order to have alternatives for the final stages of the contest: “The player has to respond. Against Pereira I liked it, sometimes when you lose it is said that it was because of those players. We are not going to get into that it has to be 11 today, for that there are 30, 35 players. We are looking to be head of the group, we have to achieve it with this team and with those who enter. We are looking for a replacement for the home runs.”
On the other side, Uruguayan Martín Cardetti, strategist 'cardinal', explained that luck has not been on the side of the team when it comes to obtaining positive results: “It's hard, a complicated moment, we are aware. We didn't play badly but we didn't win, that's reality. Today another expulsion complicates us. We have to keep working for everything that comes.”
In addition, coach 'charrua' pointed out that the expulsion of midfielder Yéiler Góez in the 76th minute complicated the picture even more: “He condemned us to lose what we were doing. With one less we were conditioned by the game we were playing, which was good”. With this fact, Santa Fe completed seven red cards over the course of the league.
“We must not change what we have been doing. You do things right. Obviously we don't get the results, but we don't play badly. I would be angry if they passed us over,” Cardetti concluded in a press conference.
After the victory, Millonarios promoted to second place in the BetPlay League with 35 points, the same as leader Deportes Tolima, who surpasses him by having a better goal difference. Meanwhile, Santa Fe remained in 11th position with 22 units and will have to start winning if he wants to keep his chances of qualifying for the home runs alive.
On the next date the 'ambassadors' will face Patriotas Boyacá as a visitor, while the 'lion' will face Jaguares de Córdoba at the El Campín stadium.
