Following the Security Council held last Sunday night in Cartago after the massacre that occurred in the La Paz neighborhood, which tragically killed 5 people and 2 more injured, Major General Herman Alejandro Bustamante Jiménez, National Chief of the Police Service, announced a joint reward between the Government of Valle del Cauca and the Mayor's Office of Cartago of up to 100 million pesos for information that helps locate and capture those responsible for the event in order to bring them to justice.

The first investigations suggest that the crime would be the product of a possible internal confrontation between members of the criminal group 'Los Flacos' whose determinator would be alias 'El Zarco'.

On the instruction of the director of the National Police, General Jorge Luis Vargas Valencia, a special group was in charge of the investigation of the event that works in coordination with the Attorney General's Office to clarify both the motives and capture those responsible for this massacre that mourned the country.

In this regard, a team of 40 uniformed personnel was appointed, whose mission is to strengthen control, prevention and security tasks in coordination with the National Army in that region of the country.

After the multiple homicide and on the instruction of the Minister of Defense, an Extraordinary Security Council was held, which was attended by Major General Herman Alejandro Bustamante Jiménez, the director of the National Police Service Headquarters; Major General Fernando Murillo Orrego, Director of Investigation Criminal and INTERPOL (DIJÍN); the local mayor, Víctor Alfonso Álvarez; Colonel Nelson Dabey Parrado Mora, commander of the Valle del Cauca Police Department, as well as delegates from the Military Forces, Municipal Personality, CTI and the Ombudsman's Office, to define the actions to be carried out in this area of the department of Valle del Cauca

This is how the events happened

Around 4 p.m. on April 24, a shooting took place in the La Paz neighborhood, sector of the old slaughterhouse of the municipality of Cartago, Valle del Cauca.

Preliminary information indicates that a family reunion was held at the scene when subversives approached to attack civilians. Five people died in the incident and two others, minors, were injured.

So far there are not many details of the fact. The National Police indicated that some of the victims identified correspond to the name of José Germán Chica, 49, known as' Mancho ', and his uncle, José Fernando Chica, age 56. Both were shot multiple times.

The Office of the Ombudsman assured that those responsible for the incident would be armed actors, but did not mention a specific group. The state entity asked the authorities to find those responsible soon.

“From the Ombudsman's Office we reject the events that took place this afternoon in the La Paz neighborhood of Cartago, Valle del Cauca, in which five people were killed and two minors were injured. We express our solidarity with the families of the victims. We call on illegal armed actors to leave civilians out of the conflict. With the Regional Valle del Cauca, we will be present at the security council that will be held today to assess the situation and we hope that the authorities will soon find those responsible,” said the entity.

“At this time, following the instructions of the Minister of Defense, Diego Molano, we are advancing the security council in Cartago, Valle del Cauca, in order to adopt measures and actions to bring to justice those responsible for the violent act that claimed the lives of 5 people,” General Bustamante reported.
