The match between Unión Magdalena and Junior de Barranquilla at the Sierra Nevada stadium in Santa Marta, valid for the 17th date of the 2022-I BetPlay League, featured several extra-sporting events. In the 73rd minute, the match had to be suspended, as there were fights in the eastern and northern stands, and then spread to the ground of game.

Due to the seriousness of the events, both the players, coaches and referees rushed to shelter in the dressing rooms of the sports scene. With no option of resuming the contest, it ended 1-1 with goals from Enrique Serje (57'), for the away team, and Stiwar Mena (61'), at the home side.

However, there was another event that also took the spotlight after the engagement. In a press conference, Junior coach Juan Cruz Real criticized, in addition to the behavior of the fans, the state of the Sierra Nevada stadium facilities. “It's a sad time for football, these things can't happen. It had already happened here and it is repeated again. It is surprising, and being respectful, that such a court is used to play,” he said first.

The bad court, the dressing rooms where we arrived, with the smell of urine, unpresentable and without water. If we want to improve football in Colombia, this is not possible, then what can I talk about the game. I am hurt because we talk about wanting to improve, I am a foreigner, but I consider myself Colombian and the truth is that going through this hurts”, added the Argentine strategist.

Following Cruz Real's statements, the mayor of Santa Marta Virna Johnson spoke out on the matter and assured that the sports arena in the capital of Magdalena must go through several quality controls to host Colombian professional football matches.

“Mr. Cruz, DT of @JuniorClubSA, is very simple; if the playing field and dressing rooms of #SierraNevada were not in optimal condition, @Dimayor and the judges of each date would not allow the @UnionMagdalena matches or the @ValleduparVFC matches to be played,” he said through his account on Twitter.

In addition, he said that the cleanliness of the stadium is a priority, and this is how it is agreed with the managers of the teams: “Likewise, as stipulated in the contract, we have required the manager of @UnionMagdalena to guarantee the logistics of each match, in addition to cleaning before and after the matches, they have to fulfill it ”.

What did he intend with his lying arguments? We would not like to believe that his words have other intentions other than football”, concluded the official.

On the other hand, Oscar Bolaño, former footballer and administrator of the Sierra Nevada, said that “the state of the pitch is excellent”, according to the newspaper El Heraldo. In this regard, he specified that the conditions were certified “by the delegates of the Dimayor and the referee of the Unión Magdalena - Junior match before the start of the game”.

With regard to the violent acts between the bars of the Magdalena Union and the Junior, the Samaria institution released in the last few hours a statement explaining that the meeting had “all the measures to provide security and enjoyment to spectators with the participation of 650 uniformed members of the Police Metropolitana de Santa Marta, the Esmad Mobile Anti-Riot Squadron and 125 logistic collaborators.

“We are committed to collaborating and providing every facility to the authorities and security agencies so that the relevant investigations clarify the facts and punish those responsible in accordance with the law,” said the board of directors.
