A parade with a giant horse through Flanders

At the end of May, tourists can experience a rare medieval spectacle in the Belgian region of Flanders. For the “Ros Beiaard Ommegang” in Dendermonde, near Brussels, a huge material horse, with four children in tow, travels the city accompanied by floats, acrobats and some 2,000 figures. At the end of the procession, which takes place on May 29, there will be a great fireworks show.

The procession, which commemorates the heroic story of the Bayard horse and the four sons of Aymon in the 15th century, is held every ten years. This edition was due to take place in 2020, but due to the coronavirus pandemic it was postponed by two years until May 2022, according to the Flanders-Brussels Tourism Agency.

New hiking trail along the mines and rubble pits of Essen

From the industrial complex of the Zollverein coal mine, in the German Unesco World Heritage city of Essen, starts a new hiking route that runs through the north of Essen.

The trail, named Zollvereinsteig, allows us to appreciate the industrial culture and structural change that this region experienced in close contact with nature.

One of the high points of the trail is the rubble formed by the rocks obtained in the mines, which can be explored on foot. The trail is about 26 kilometers long, but it can also be traveled in sections.

Berlin's capital zoo, Tierpark, recently opened a sector that mimics the Himalayas.

Visitors can discover the world of Asian mountains through a replica of about 60,000 square meters. According to the zoo, the highest point in the new sector is about 60 meters high.

In this installation live, among others, small pandas, snow leopards and bearded vultures. The Tierpark Zoo is located in the district of Lichtenberg, in the east of the city, and claims to be the largest in Europe in terms of area.
