Directives of the Magdalena Union condemned events that cost the life of a fan per battle in grandstands

They also pointed out as responsible the barristas of the visiting team who breached a coexistence agreement at the Sierra Nevada stadium in Santa Marta

Following the acts of violence that led to the death of Brandon Gustavo Somoza Gutiérrez —a Unión Magdalena supporter—in the match that the 'Cyclone' played against Junior for the 17th date of the BetPlay League, club directors issued a statement condemning the violence in the stands of the Sierra Nevada stadium (Santa Nevada) Marta) as well as they pointed out some fans as responsible for the events that mourned Colombian football.

In the statement, they say that Bloque Central, Frente Rojiblanco and Los Cuervos, followers of the 'Tiburón' team “They did not behave with decency and discipline, on the contrary, they unleashed the acts of violence that triggered in the regrettable events that the country knows today during the 17th day of the League BetPlay Dimayor 2022 I”.

They also point out to these fans of failing to comply with a coexistence agreement in the eastern-north tribune of the stadium entered “bladed weapons (knives and stabs), gunpowder and blunt objects”. After learning that there were several injuries in the clashes between the fans of Unión Magdalena and the Barranquilla Junior, the mayor of Santa Marta, Virna Johnson, spoke about this and offered a reward to identify who started the fight.

“How sad that they can't enjoy football in peace. We report 3 detainees and offer up to 5 million rewards for information to identify those responsible for initiating this embarrassing event. Santa Marta deserves respect. I ask the judicial authorities for EXEMPLARY consequences,” said the official.

He added, “I will be watching for investigations to produce results and those responsible pay. We arranged with the Police and the Army a whole deployment of uniformed personnel and the party was lived with peace of mind. You cannot put one watchman per person, it requires the good behavior of EVERYONE. We reject violence and harm to a public good of all samariums.”

While waiting for a sanction from the sports authorities, the last two league matches of Unión Magdalena will be against Deportivo Pereira (April 29 as a visitor) and against La Equidad (May 8 at home).
