The former governor of Nariño, Camilo Romero (Ipiales, 1976), a member of the Green Alliance Party and recent adherence to the Historical Pact, denounced an accident on his Twitter account that put part of his security scheme at risk in events that occurred last Sunday afternoon.
Romero reported that the van in which some of his escorts were driving suffered a brake failure without events that compromised the lives of the members of his security scheme. Along with the announcement, the political leader attached a photograph of the vehicle on the side of the road to Cali.
He wrote: “Months asking for proper brake maintenance of the van assigned to my safety scheme. Today an escort traveling to Cali suffered this hard accident because his brakes didn't work. Fortunately, he's fine. @UNPColombia must avoid events that can be deadly.”
At the time of writing, the National Protection Unit has not commented on this matter. However, Romero's detractors did take advantage of the political leader's message to criticize him for alleged negligence by not taking responsibility for maintenance and putting the lives of the agents in his security scheme at risk.
User @sinfaces wrote: “If it was months asking for brake maintenance, didn't I have to stop it and avoid any accidents? If someone had died in this accident, you would also be responsible, because you knew the condition of the van.”
@CesarDimasBorrero also criticized the alleged negligence of the political leader: “Pilas, because knowing that the vehicle was in poor condition, he sent his escort to do something that, even, may not be an official procedure. I say this even though the law, let alone the criminal law, affects them.”
“LIE the UNP immobilizes the car if there is no monthly maintenance. Another thing is that their escorts drive like beasts,” wrote user @Cvivianforero.
“It seems more serious to me that knowing the condition didn't matter to you and you traveled like that, as who says, let's make it happen to be paid attention to me, I don't allow personnel in my charge to go out to work if the vehicle does not work and if they haven't wanted to maintain it, I stop work”, stressed user @dianalizethp.
It should be noted that Camilo Romero did not respond to the angry criticism of his followers, who did not stop responding to the political leader's tweet, taking advantage of his virality to express his political positions.
The two investigations that have Camilo Romero in trouble
For the time being, the former governor is facing an investigation in the Supreme Court since 2019 for his responsibility for contract offenses without legal requirements, undue interest in the conclusion of contract, material falsity in public document, ideological falsity in public document and association to commit crimes against public administration.
In addition, he is facing another investigation, this time by the Attorney General's Office for alleged irregularities in the sale of 80,000 cases of Nariño brandy to a distribution company in the region and worth more than 18 billion pesos.
The former governor of Nariño is being investigated because he handed over the management agreement to a new company that did not have long since it had been created, so he had no experience. This was led by a person who supported Romero in his campaign, something that is serious for the entity.
