Vicente Fox applauded the absence of Mexican actor, Eugenio Derbez, at the meeting that he and other celebrities and activists would hold with the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) for the controversy of Section 5 of the Maya Train.

While acknowledging the invitation extended by the Chief Executive to those who had previously pointed out pseudo-environmentalists, Derbez clarified to the journalist, Azucena Uresti, that she will not be present at the meeting due to the filming that is currently keep their schedule busy.

“I know that the others are going to go, we are a very large group,” she added for the journalist.

Thus, the former president of the National Action Party (PAN) acknowledged - through his Twitter account - the decision of the director, since, according to Fox, this would mean that Derbez would not have “lent himself to the game” of López Obrador.

It should be recalled that the great work developed in the southeast of Mexico has been the target of harsh criticism, especially after the change of route for Section 5 at the height of Playa del Carmen.

After this announcement, various organizations have accused inconsistencies in the planning and construction of this sector, since, they say, that area is not viable for works due to the karst soil of that region of the peninsula.

In this vein, it has also been pointed out that the resolution lacks environmental permits to ensure the repair of the damage that this project would entail to cenotes, underground rivers and ecosystems .

In view of this, a judge from Yucatán granted the provisional suspension of the works after a group of divers filed a claim for amparo because they did not have a demonstration of environmental impact. A resolution that, according to Andrés Manuel, was not notified to him.

“There is no official notification yet. We only know what is already in the public domain: there is for political, not environmental purposes, a campaign against the Maya Train funded by international organizations and Mexican businessmen,” he stopped at his morning conference.

In the face of ignorance, it was that the Tabasqueño even extended the invitation to dialogue with the famous and environmentalists who took a stand against the project through the “Selvame del Tren” campaign.

However, Andrés Manuel stressed that he would not attend the meeting personally because, as the meeting point was the region where the stretch would be built, he prefers that they should be the farmers and experts who explain the development of the flagship work.

He also said that his absence seeks to evade the “political purpose” that, according to AMLO, celebrities would have sought with their claim to the Mayan Train: “I am not going to play the game with them,” he warned, further stating that “you cannot expose” as a representative of the presidential inauguration.

On the contrary, he stated that he is open to holding a private meeting with the Protestants, as long as they agree to hold it in the National Palace: “If you come here, we attend them here, (...) whenever they want they can come”.

In response to the exhortation, participants in the “Sélvame del Tren” campaign were grateful through a statement signed by environmentalists, activists, artists, divers, biologists , academics and experts in the area: “Rest assured that it will be a respectful and constructive dialogue,” they said.

So far, no date has been confirmed for such a meeting.
