The mysterious death of Rebeca Uribe, Maria Felix's secretary

In 1949, the actress was accused of having been involved in the death of the poet she hired as her assistant

Maria Felix was involved in the controversy of the death of one of her secretaries because they found a photo of her in her bag. The rumors surrounding this death were different, but the ones that attracted the most attention were those where it was assured that La Doña had murdered her supposedly girlfriend.

In order to streamline her commitments as a movie star, Maria Felix decided to hire a secretary who could help her with different tasks. He thought that Rebeca Uribe was the one, because, as she said in her book, she had the necessary culture and intelligence.

Uribe was a renowned poet at the time; in addition to being Maria's secretary, she dedicated herself to writing poems, she went on to publish up to six works. She was also a stage actress, but only from the experimental point of view.

The Doña was not interested in knowing the private life of her worker, because she only wanted her because of what she was capable of doing, however, this would later have an impact on the actress' personal affairs.

In 1949, the histrionist had to go to Spain to settle various matters at work, with her it was not Rebeca, because they were not together at all times, only when necessary. It was then, on an August morning, that Felix received the news of the death of his secretary.

According to the actress, Rebeca was found in a hotel room, completely naked on the bed and with a syringe next to her body. The first impressions were that she would have died due to an overdose of cocaine, but when the investigations began they pointed to Maria as a possible one implicated in the death.

And when it became known that the lifeless body belonged to Uribe, who was the actress's secretary and that on the morning of the day she died they saw a woman wearing a fur coat leaving the hotel where the poet was staying, it was intuited that it would have been La Doña.

During the investigations by the authorities, it was found that Rebeca was carrying a photo of Felix in her purse. In addition, it came to the attention of the press that the historian had left the country shortly before the death of her secretary, as some media claimed that María Bonita had traveled to Spain escaping the investigations.

The press began to raise the rumor that possibly the protagonist of La cucaracha had a loving relationship with Rebeca and that it was she who was with the poet at the hotel the morning she died, so that a photo of the actress was found among Uribe's belongings.

However, La Doña was annoyed by all the comments that had arisen about her and that Enrique, her son, had been frightened by the scandal that had been made and that her mother was accused of being involved in the death of Rebeca, whom he knew and loved.

What Agustín Lara's then-wife did to counter the bad comments to Uribe and her, was to speak to different media about their relationship and the professional achievements that the poetess obtained.

As she explained in her book, she always wanted Rebeca to be remembered as a great artist, as well as an excellent secretary, but she saw her as a very good friend and whose departure hurt her.

During the investigations, it was determined that the woman who was with Uribe until almost her last moments was a young woman with whom it is unknown what kind of relationship she had. She wouldn't have been questioned during the investigations.
