The change of season is felt most strongly, especially in the areas of the coast and the mountains, where the ambient temperature changes and the cold rises. With this, scenarios of possible respiratory diseases are also created. These are the districts and areas where it will be much colder during late April and early May.
DISTRICTS WITH THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE
On this subject, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service of Peru (Senamhi) indicated that Metropolitan Lima has experienced greater humidity in certain areas, an unusual drop in environmental temperature and strong winds.
In addition, Tania Ita, a specialist at the Senamhi Sub-Directorate of Climate Prediction, explained which districts would have the lowest minimum temperatures and those that could also have a temperature ranging between the 14 and 17 degrees, from the end of April and the beginning of May and are as follows:
- San Juan de Lurigancho, Ate Vitarte and La Molina, districts located in eastern Lima.
“The districts in the eastern part of Lima, that is, the ones furthest from the coast, are those that concentrate the lowest minimum temperatures,” the specialist told the Andean Agency.
In the case of the western part of Lima, the districts in which the thermal sensation will be much more felt even without having minimum temperatures with values not so low are as follows:
- San Miguel and Callao.
“In these districts there is a greater increase in winds in the afternoon, a greater amount of drizzle, the presence of fog, and all of this can contribute to a lower thermal sensation, which is what the person perceives,” said Tania Ita.
LOWER VALUES
Last Monday, April 18, the lowest values occurred at the Alexander Von Humboldt weather station, located in the district of La Molina. The temperature reached 13.5 degrees.
That same day in the Callao area the temperature reached 14.9 degrees.
TEMPERATURES IN MAY
The temperature of the cold sea influences that of the air and this would still last a few more weeks. That means that the feeling of cold would be present during the month of May, according to engineer Tania Ita.
The values can reach up to 14 degrees.
“In Lima, for example, we would expect values that vary between 14 and 17 degrees,” said the professional.
FROST SEASON IN THE SIERRA
It is important how the temperature varies in each area of the country. In the case of the Sierra region, the coldest season is called the frost season. These are a meteorological event in which temperatures drop below their normal values and occur every year.
The places where they occur are in the high areas that are above 3200 meters above sea level.
April is the month where this event begins and ends in September, but its coldest period is between the months of June and July.
The departments where frost occurs most intensely are: Puno, Arequipa, Tacna, Moquegua, Cusco, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Pasco, Junín and Apurimac.
The thermal sensation is much lower during the night and early morning.
