On April 8, Debanhi Escobar attended a party with her friends in a Quinta de Escobedo, Nuevo Leon; 13 days later, her body was found in a cistern at Motel Nueva Castilla, a few meters from the road where a driver took his last photograph.
What happened between the early hours of April 9 and the afternoon of April 21 was described as “a massive human failure” by Aldo Fasci, the Secretary of Security in the State of Nuevo León.
According to Debanhi's family and other agencies, the investigation into the disappearance of the 18-year-old girl is full of inconsistencies and omissions. “I was wrong to trust the Prosecutor's Office, I apologize,” said Mario Escobar, father of the law student at the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL).
-The cistern of the Nueva Castilla Motel
While the official version claims that Debanhi died from a “deep contusion of the skull”, the version emerged that the young woman would have fallen into the cistern by accident, however the young woman's family dismissed what was said and considered it “impossible and implausible” that she had tried to climb the fence, while other data suggest that the body would not have been all the time in the water tank and the death would not have occurred due to lack of oxygen in his lungs.
Why are they dismissing the inquiry offered by the Attorney General's Office of Nuevo León?
The cistern where the body was located raises many doubts, in the Google Maps application it can be seen that at least in 2021, the pool at Motel Nueva Castilla was already empty.
This is in contrast to the time it took to dissolve the corresponding cistern. It should be recalled that Debanhi's body was recovered and transferred to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) around one o'clock in the morning on April 22; the discovery occurred before 9 pm the day before.
On the other hand, the place where Debanhi's body was found had already been checked by the authorities before the discovery; moreover, the reporter Fabian Pasos of Mafian TV was able to enter the site without any problem and recorded some videos near the cistern without noticing any scent of decomposition, a sign that would have alerted the Motel staff Nueva Castilla to call the authorities, he even stated that the staff had indicated that he kept a record of who entered and left its premises.
On Thursday, April 21, Debanhi's family received a notice of “new information” from the Attorney General of the State of Nuevo León (FGE) and the Sonora Attorney General's Office (FGJ).
It was a body found in the Nueva Castilla Motel, near the last place where the young woman was seen alive, the next day it was confirmed that, because of the clothes and a jewel, it belonged to Debanhi.
As the relatives moved to the scene, Mafia TV's reporter Fabián Pasos explained in his live broadcast that they had cordoned off the vicinity of the motel, the same communicator was the one who showed the precise moment when Debanhi's father complained to the authorities for not detecting the body in reviews and searches previous. “Thirteen days here! How many times were you here? How many times!”
- Despite the fact that Debanhi had suffered sexual harassment, the prosecution considered that “there was no crime to be pursued”
The first thing that became known about Debanhi's case of disappearance was a photograph where she was seen alone on the Monterrey - Nuevo Laredo highway. The image was taken by Juan David Cuéllar around 5:00 a.m. on April 9, he is a “trusted” taxi driver who was called by the young woman's friends to take her home.
So far, it is not clear why the driver took that photograph and sent it to Debanhi's friends as alleged “evidence” that she had voluntarily left the vehicle.
On the other hand, information from the Prosecutor's Office to Mario Escobar showed that the driver had tried to touch Debanhi's breasts without his consent. “There is a moment when the taxi driver, Juan David, extends his hand to my daughter's breasts, and from there, I guess, that my daughter couldn't stand the harassment. ”, explained the young woman's father and said he was very upset with the prosecution for considering that “there was no crime to pursue”.
This is why Debanhi's father holds the driver directly responsible for the death of his daughter, since it has transpired that he supposedly works through the application, however, that day he was not working and those who contacted him from outside the platform were the young woman's friends.
-Despite the fact that Debanhi had suffered sexual harassment, the prosecutor's office considered that “there was no crime to pursue”
This Saturday, after the present body mass of Debanhi Susana Escobar Bazaldúa, the father of the young law student gave an emotional message:
“I will not rest until the murder of my daughter is solved. Whoever falls, bumps with whoever hits” or maybe this is happening in Nuevo León. We are tired of our dead and murdered daughters being handed over to us, I am not going to stop,” he declared before his daughter's coffin.
However, when the videos of the driver allegedly harassing Debanhi were released, Debanhi's father mentioned that Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero Gutierrez, the Attorney General of Nuevo León, said there was no crime to be prosecuted for sexual violence.
Given this, Debanhi's father assured that he no longer trusts the prosecutor and held the driver responsible for touching her without his consent, this action would have caused him to get out of the car “My daughter died because of incompetent people,” said Mario Escobar.
Until noon on April 23, the Attorney General's Office of the State of Nuevo León, headed by Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero, has reserved information about a possible violation of Debanhi.
-The 10 minutes of key video missing on Debanhi's route
After it was announced that Debanhi walked to the company Alcosa Transportes Internacionales, Mario Escobar reported that two videos that could have captured the young minute after walking to the premises of the carrier which he apparently entered, but was not seen leaving.
He also reported that Alcosa Transportes Internacionales has not released the reasons why both recordings captured by its security cameras are lost. This is about 8 to 12 minutes of recording that were not shown as part of the recovered videos.
“The company Alcosa has not justified that a few minutes of video, which are very important after my daughter walked to the company to ask for help, magically disappeared, two videos that are facing each other. They have eight cameras,” said Debanhi's father.
On the other hand, the administration of Motel Nueva Castilla mentioned on several occasions that, although surveillance cameras can be seen in various photographs on the facade of the place, some of them do not serve or are solely for monitoring, so they do not store material.
While searching for Debanhi Susana Escobar, five missing teenagers were found alive, namely 14-year-old Ireland Ramirez; 15-year-old Ingrid Castillo; 16-year-old Brisa Porras and 15-year-old Jenifer Almaguer, both located in Monterrey, and 19-year-old Irma Hernandez.
All were located alive, according to information that Infobae Mexico corroborated with the agency after the false news that the young women had died spread on social networks.
One of the comments and criticisms of Samuel García's government was that “I wasn't doing anything”, as the claim was that, if it weren't for Debanhi's case, they would not have been found.
In this regard, the governor of Nuevo León replied that there were only eight people working in the various search commissions, but that he would allocate more money in the future:
“As a result of this public problem that we have, last Monday, from all sides, we cut to allocate 50 million pesos, which I know is nothing, but we are going to quadruple the staff and above all the capacity of the state for the search commission,” he said.
-Friends of Debanhi and partygoers
Although Debanhi's friends mentioned at first that they wanted to “play a joke” by leaving her alone at the party; Debanhi's cousin revealed that in her statements, they assured that she had behaved impertinently and even conflictively, so they decided to leave without her.
So far there are no official reports about who were the organizers or hosts of the party and there are no videos, photographs or records of other attendees of the event. However, some unconfirmed versions have transpired where it is claimed that there were people related to organized crime in the coexistence, so no one has published recordings inside the place.
Other versions suggest that at the party there were only teenagers and young people of Debanhi's age, probably classmates from her high school or university, since she is a law student, but there is no public information confirming who the attendees had been besides her friends.
It should be noted that the information about the people who attended the party has not been confirmed by the Attorney General's Office of Nuevo León, a agency that could be investigating the matter without making it public in order to avoid hindering the information.
