The Red Bull Racing team took over the podium as Max Verstappen and Sergio Checo Pérez took first and second place respectively in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The Mexican's work earned him recognition by Christian Horner, chief mechanic at Red Bull.
After Checo Pérez finished second in the race, Horner spoke for Sky Sports microphones and praised the effort of the rider from Tapatio. He briefly described Pérez's work on the track of the Emilia GP as “fantastic” and “brilliant” as he won a double for the team which had not been achieved for six years.
And it is that one of the factors that led to the podium for the tapatio team was the overrun that Checo made to Charles Leclerc de Ferrari. From the training lap and halfway through the race Sergio managed to pass the Ferrari driver and thus support Verstappen for first place.
This action allowed Horner to recognize Checo's action because he assured that he was able to maintain control throughout the race and thus secure the 1 - 2 of the Imola Grand Prix.
“Checo had Charles under control and the boys made some incredible stops today. It was a great performance by the team, not only by the boys on the track, but by everyone at Milton Keynes,” said the director of Red Bull for Sky Sports.
