Through his social networks, and in the midst of the list of questions that have fallen on the presidential candidate Gustavo Petro, Armando Benedetti, a supporter of the campaign of the candidate for the Historical Pact, assured that the only thing that could prevent the head of state from being left in the hands of the former mayor of Bogotá would be a situation extreme that threatens their life and well-being. In the same way, the senator has been lashing out against Federico Gutiérrez, one of the greatest critics of the leader of Human Colombia.
The first round of Colombia's presidential elections are scheduled for May 29, 2022. According to the most recent poll by the National Consultancy Center, Gustavo Petro would be victorious, both in the first and second round, against Fico Gutiérrez, Team candidate for Colombia. Benedetti's trill was given prior to the publications about the candidate's visit to Ciénaga de Oro in the middle of his campaign tours.
In one of the most recent situations in which Gustavo Petro was involved, the commander of the National Army, Eduardo Zapateiro, was also involved. The presidential candidate questioned the uniformed who are part of criminal structures and the benefits they receive from them. “The honor of the military forces is to isolate them from the corruption regime, professionalize them and achieve maximum welfare for the police officer and the soldier. The generals will inform me of the houses built for the agent and the soldier,” he wrote on the morning of this Sunday, April 24, on his social networks.
It was this week that General Juvenal Díaz, commander of the Seventh Army Division, confirmed that there had been an attack, by the Gulf Clan, in the village of Nutibara in Frontino, against uniformed members of the National Army. According to the preliminary report, eight soldiers were injured, another of them lost part of one of their legs and six others lost their lives.
“While soldiers are killed by the Gulf Clan, some of the generals are on the Clan's payroll. The top is corrupted when it is the politicians of drug trafficking who end up promoting the generals,” said Gustavo Petro. Zapateiro, in response, accused the candidate of using tragic events like this to fuel his presidential campaign. “Senator, do not use your inauguration (parliamentary inviolability) to try to make politicking with the death of our soldiers, rather fulfill your citizen duty of substantiated denunciation to the Prosecutor's Office of the facts you mention, whoever you are,” he said.
“I remind you that as a senator you are part of the collective that you dare to point out as 'politicians of drug traffickers'. As a citizen I recommend not to generalize. Respect first and foremost,” he added.
In response to the statements of the head of the security forces, officials reminded him that, as an active official of the institution, he should not be carrying out attacks of this kind. Those who spoke out against Zapateiro's actions have also requested that he resign from office.
“General Zapateiro cannot intervene in politics and the series of tweets made against Gustavo Petro are a crime. We demand his immediate resignation, his words are not democratic, they violate the constitution and independence of the Army,” said MAIS Party Senator Feliciano Valencia, one of several personalities who have agreed to Zapateiro's separation from office, immediately.
