In a few months, Peruvians will return to the polls to elect our authorities, this time those who will hold the posts of mayor and regional governors for the next four years. Thus, the National Elections Jury has been working on the basis of a schedule that stipulated that until yesterday registrations could be made and figures obtained so far from the process have surprised the population.
According to the numbers handled by the National Elections Jury, there will be 13,388 lists that will compete in the next internal elections of the political parties, a vote where the group of supporters will be chosen that will represent the group in the next elections. It should be recalled that this procedure is relatively new, so not all organizations have experimented. Thus, the JNE will provide assistance in understanding the new procedure for the election of authorities.
The JNE has shared that it is about 135,276 Peruvians who will participate as candidates in the elections. Of this figure, 339 correspond to the regional election, 1857 to the provincial municipal election and 11,192 to the municipal district election. “Of the 13,388 lists submitted by political groups in the JNE Internal Declara system, almost 50% were submitted on the last day (around 6,500),” Huber Barreto, the head of information technology projects of the electoral body, Huber Barreto, told the Jury's institutional channel.
The representative of the JNE reported that the system created for the registration of applicants worked correctly from 1 April until midnight on the 11th of the same month, the interval of days when the registration of lists of candidates for internal elections was enabled. According to Barreto, training in the use of the digital tool was previously provided to representatives of political organizations, both in Lima and in the interior of the country, from March 8 to April 4, through 27 informative workshops (20 virtual and seven face-to-face).
UPCOMING ELECTION
There are few months that citizens count to think about who would assume important positions of popular election. So far the list of pre-candidates is known, although in some cases they will be the final candidates since they will not face anyone in the internal elections of their respective political groups.
