Ukrainian President Volodymir Zelensky said at a press conference this Saturday - at which Infobae was present - that he is not afraid to be at a negotiating table with the Russian president: “I am not afraid to meet with Putin or be killed,” he said.
“The only one who can end this war is the one who started it,” he said at a metro station in the heart of the Ukrainian capital. At the same time, he stressed: “I have insisted from the beginning on having negotiations with the leader of the Russian Federation because I believe that any meeting will be through mediators will not give the desired effect”.
When answering questions about whether he was afraid to meet with Putin, given that members of an informal Russian-Ukrainian negotiating group had suffered symptoms of poisoning, Zelensky called those “assassination attempts”; and said that his security team and family were worried about them, but that he couldn't be. “I'm not afraid to meet with the president or assassination attempts,” he insisted.
“I have no right to be afraid because our people have shown that they are not afraid of anything. They fear for their children, that's true, but people stopped the tanks with their bare hands,” he continued.
