Why Amaury Vergara doesn't want Matías Almeyda's return to Chivas

The Chivas sports crisis has shown a totally different face to the one they exhibited in 2018, when they managed to be crowned by Matías Almeyda in three different tournaments. After Michel Leaño's departure coincided with the vacancy of Matías Almeyda after his departure from San José Earthquakes, the fans thought about the Argentine's return, but there would be an episode that caused the Vergara family's displeasure during his tenure.

During a live broadcast on Luis García Postigo's Facebook profile, journalist David Medrano said that Amaury Vergara has not yet managed to overcome a protest that Almeyda's players waged against him. According to him, the gesture they directed before playing the Concacaf Champions League final, against Toronto FC in 2018, caused him a problem with the sponsors.

The last golden age that the Chivas lived was done by the hand of Pelado Almeyda. In the 2015 Apertura they lifted the MX Cup trophy and a year later the MX Super Cup trophy. However, in 2017 they swept by winning both the League and the Cup in the 2017 Clausura. The achievements were widely celebrated, as the last time they managed to become champions was during the 2006 Apertura.

In addition to the drive and wisdom of their coach, one of the incentives that led them to achieve the conquest came from the board of directors. In exchange for owning both championships, they were promised special bonuses and prizes as a reward. The information reached public opinion, but the 2017 Apertura tournament passed and the players did not see the prize reflected for their efforts.

Tired of the situation, among the members the initiative arose to make the board uncomfortable. That way, on April 24, before playing the final leg against Toronto FC, the squad jumped onto the pitch to warm up in a different uniform. Instead of wearing the typical gray shirt, some wore it backwards while others wore a white sweater with a direct message to the board and Amaury Vergara.

Normally, the players played with the ball, stretching and warming up before the eyes of the fans and the press. Before returning to the dressing room, Almeyda met with them in the center of the pitch and gave the final indications before lifting the title of the Concachampions.

The coach's gesture of complicity with his pupils, as well as the sponsor's demand for the players' decision to stop wearing their uniform because of a problem caused by the management, caused discomfort in the red-and-white cupola and accentuated the roughness that already existed with him.

The relationship became untenable and Almeyda announced her departure from the institution because of disagreements with the management. The news caused a huge surprise, as Vergara let go of the coach who returned glory to the second most important team in the country by winning five titles in three years.
