Debanhi Susana Escobar Bazaldúa died as a result of head injury, as revealed by the Attorney General's Office of the State of Nuevo León. The 18-year-old girl was found inside a cistern at the Nueva Castilla motel, located in the municipality of Escobedo.

The state's attorney, Gustavo Adolfo Guerrero Gutiérrez, determined that the young woman's lungs had no water, so they ruled out death by drowning.

After the first forensic studies, authorities are now investigating whether the blow to the head was the result of a fall or was inflicted by someone else.

“You can't say it was an accident. There are many lines of research that have to be exhausted,” Guerrero said.

Initially, the authorities had handled the hypothesis that Debanhi died after falling into the cistern; however, this Friday they claimed that he lost his life due to a blow to the skull. “She may have been assaulted and thrown there (in the cistern),” he said.

Who would have killed her? The question, in one of the most insecure states for women, is hasty. There are more basic questions about this mysterious death, which have not yet been resolved.

The authorities still have no arguments to explain what happened or how the young woman ended up in the cistern of a fenced motel.

A hunch from the family, he managed to get the authorities to search the motel on April 12; however, no evidence was found.

Theories about what happened, ranging from the surprising to the implausible, were justified by the State Attorney, who pointed out that the property was only inspected once and not four times as has been said. He also said that they focused on searching room by room and the external area depended on canine binomials.
