In Colombia, according to the EY Organization, the data science market is growing at rates close to 30% per year, which has meant a greater need for digital talent. In fact, according to the Indeed job search engine, demand for professionals specialized in this field grew by 50% in the healthcare, telecommunications, entertainment, banking and insurance sectors in 2021.

And the fact is that on LinkedIn alone, jobs related to data science increased by 64 percent last year. In addition, in the professional network 66% of vacancies for engineers and technology profiles are currently looking for people with knowledge, competencies and skills in Data Science.

Other figures from the Public Employment Service confirm that there are currently 3,702 offers in Colombia for 6,480 jobs requiring profiles with knowledge and skills in data science. Bogotá, accounts for 72% of offers (2,658); Medellín, 502 (14%); Cali, 155 (4%); and Barranquilla, 111 (3%).

There is no doubt that this study has become fundamental in companies in the region, as according to PageGroup's Latam Perspectives 2022 report, among the most demanded technology profiles for this period are Business Intelligence (54.2%), Cybersecurity (49.7%) and Big Data (44.4%). This picture contrasts with the reality of the labor market in Latin America, where according to the report on IT Talent and STEM Competitiveness, also by PageGroup, the shortage in the supply of digital talent stands at 48%.

Therefore, Henry (High Earners Not Rich Yet) launched his new career in Data Science with which he plans to impact at least 1,000 young Colombians in the first half of the year, with zero initial cost.

“The lack of qualified technology talent not only applies to software development profiles, but to all technical areas within the industry. As in web programming, profiles related to Data Science are also in high demand, so studying in this discipline is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to take off in the tech world,” said Martín Borchardt, CEO and founder of Edutech.

Those interested will be able to start studying at no cost and pay only when they graduate and get a job with a good salary.

The program lasts five months full-time, from Monday to Friday, during which time students will learn the fundamentals, technical knowledge and the use of tools to manage data throughout its lifecycle. In addition, they will master the programming language in Python in depth. Classes will be held in 100% online and live mode with instructors.

The course is divided into three stages: the first is a three-month bootcamp, the second stage, Henry Labs, which consists of putting into practice everything learned through real-world project construction and collaborative learning; and the third, Job Prep, a module that is taken simultaneously with the other stages of the career, where you will be able to acquire tools to enter the world of work.

How to enroll?

The only requirements are: to be 18 or older, to be a bachelor's degree and to have a computer with good internet access. It is not necessary to have previous experience.

The first thing that interested parties should do is go to www.soyhenry.com and fill out the form. Then, they will have to sign up for the Henry Challenge, a technical challenge where they will be evaluated in basic concepts of Python and mathematics.

The Forge Foundation in Colombia and Amazon Web Services (AWS) will offer in the country the second version of their cloud computing skills development courses and free job training through the AWS Re/Start program, which will be held online for low-income youth, focused on the development of tools fundamentals of AWS technology, as well as practical professional skills such as job interviews and resume writing, with the aim of supporting the employment of students for jobs in the cloud.

The Forge Colombia Foundation and AWS Re/Start will offer to bring technology closer to an inclusive and diverse group of talents, with or without previous experience, with the goal of enabling them to start a career in the industry. The program is virtual, free of charge, lasts four months and will take place from Monday to Friday from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

“The cloud may sound like something far away or unknown, but it is much closer than we think. Streaming services, video games, video calls and many business processes now work in the cloud. Preparing in this area can mean an opportunity to start a career with a lot of projection. It is an invitation to young people with or without previous knowledge, especially women, as there is a great need to incorporate them into the industry,” said María José Gómez, director of the Forge Foundation for Colombia.

The program will prepare new talent for new careers in technology through real-world exercises, hands-on labs and courses. In addition, to validate cloud skills, the program will give free access to take the exam leading to the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification. Upon approval, young people will be prepared to play roles in operations, site reliability, and infrastructure support.

Training on Linux, programming languages such as Python, networking, security and databases are part of the list of topics to be taught. The requirements to enroll in the program are:
