This Saturday, the Argentine flag appeared at the top of the podium at the mythical Imola racetrack. It's just that Franco Colapinto, the 18-year-old who dreams of reaching Formula 1, achieved a fantastic victory in the sprint race with a dramatic maneuver that allowed him to regain the lead in the last lap. The rookie of the Van Amersfoort Racing team achieved his first win in a very interrupted race.
Colapinto, which had just won pole position for the main race in Bahrain, had also started from the top position in the sprint by the inverted grid rule. However, he lost the lead to Caio Collet on Lap 4 after the MP Motorsport driver took advantage of the DRS in the main straight.
From that moment on, the young Argentine driver remained in second place in much of the race and was able to regain leadership at just the right time: he took the lead of the squad in the Tamburello chicane, after a period of virtual safety car. A few seconds later, Collet made contact with Isack Hadjar, who was trying to pass him, and both ended up out of action.
That accident promoted Victor Martins to second place, while Jak Crawford took third place, achieving his second podium of the series.
