During this year's International Water Day, various personalities from the entertainment industry in Mexico joined the Sélvame del Tren campaign, in which they demanded that the construction of one of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's (AMLO) megaprojects be stopped due to the possible environmental damage it could have.
In response, the Chief Executive criticized the performances of the celebrities, including Natalia Lafourcade, Rubén Albarrán, Omar Chaparro, Kate del Catillo, Ana Claudia Talancón, Barbara Morí, Saul Hernandez and Eugenio Derbez.
Although López Obrador initially disqualified the demands of the celebrities, during his morning conference on April 20, the Tabasqueño invited them to talk to resolve doubts about the construction of Section 5 of the Maya Train. However, from the very beginning the actresses, actors and musicians asked that this be at the site of the construction of the megaproject.
“I invite them, I am not going to have an adviser, that they are there, and after they receive all the information I will give them a document, after they speak out and their advisors speak freely, but I want to talk to them,” said AMLO from the National Palace.
For his part, actor and producer Eugenio Derbez, who has strongly defended his position, welcomed the fact that López Obrador took that position, but stressed that it is necessary for experts to be present at his meeting.
However, he assured that he will not be able to attend the dialogue with the Chief Executive: “I am not going to be in Mexico because I am filming, I cannot go, it is physically impossible for me,” Ludovico's interpreter P.Luche revealed in an interview with journalist Azucena Uresti. “I know that if the others are going to go, we are a very large group,” he added.
In addition, he ruled out that he has a presence via video call because “it does not suit him”, since, according to his statements, the last time he gave an interview “he was banned from Televisa” and he received many death threats.
It is worth mentioning that days before AMLO's invitation to celebrities, a judge from the state of Yucatán granted the provisional suspension of Section 5 of the Maya Train after a group of divers filed a claim for amparo for not having a demonstration of environmental impact.
This was announced by the association Defending the Right to a Healthy Environment (DMAS) through a statement shared on its social networks, in which it is mentioned that after three weeks, the First District Court admitted the issue and notified them on Monday, April 18 of the suspension.
The agreement, dated April 12, provides for the suspension of any act aimed at continuing the construction of Section 5 South, which runs from Playa del Carmen to Tulum and covers an area of 60.3 kilometers, so that the execution of works related to its infrastructure will not be allowed, as well as the removal of destruction of the biodiversity of the area.
The amparo was filed on Thursday, March 24, before the Ninth District Court by the DMAS and a group of speleologists and divers residing in Playa del Carmen, but was subsequently referred to the First Court through an agreement with the Council of the Federal Judiciary (CJF).
