Esteban Mateus Williamson, known on the music scene as' Esteman ', is an important Bogotá musical artist who has consolidated his career through the exploration of rhythms and by being a benchmark for the LGBTIQ+ community in the Latin American music scene. For several years the singer-songwriter has lived in Mexico City and in his most recent release he demonstrated his closeness to the rhythms of that country.
This is 'This Part of Me', a song that Esteman composed together with singer-songwriter Georgel and which, initially, was going to be part of his last album 'Si Volviera a Nacer', presented in September 2021 and in which the Bogotá wanted to explore the classical sounds of the musical eras of the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. However, a change of plans led to the song being heard by the Mexican group 'Los Ángeles Azules' who fell in love with the lyrics and wanted it to be part of their 40-year anniversary album as the second most important single.
“This song was born about three years ago when I was writing for my album 'Si Volviera A Nacer'b and this cumbia that I wrote with Georgel came up. This is a song that I wrote inspired by Los Angeles Azules, so I decided to save it so I could show it to you,” explained the Colombian artist. This was the case and the single became a special theme for the Mexican group, which was preparing their anniversary album in collaboration with other important artists, so they joined Esteman and Mexican Sofia Reyes to perform this song.
The union between the group and the two musical artists happened at a key moment in the career of the three, since Esteman is at the very beginning of his 'Te Alejas Más De Mi Tour', a show with which he achieved 'sold out' at the Metropolitan Theater in Mexico City. For her part, Mexican artist Sofía Reyes is reaping the rewards of her recent album 'Mal De Amores', while the flagship group of Mexican cumbia, Los Angeles Azules, is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a new album and a tour.
'That Part of Me' is a song that talks about the mistakes and imperfection of human beings, it is a song that is about asking for forgiveness, but also about recognizing that all people can make mistakes. In the official video clip of the song, the artists bring out their best steps from cumbia, but you can also see the romantic and modern style of the Colombian.
The importance of Los Angeles Azules and the impact of this song composed by Esteman was such that, on April 21, the artists presented it live during the Latin AMA's awards at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
About the Mexican group, Esteman pointed out that “from the first time I listened to this group I fell in love with their music, since it always embraces people in a very diverse way, without discrimination, making everyone listen to their music, dance or dedicate it in any context. It's a song that I wrote inspired by the sound world of Los Angeles Azules, including a lyrics and melody within the Esteman universe.”
On the album for its 40th anniversary Los Angeles Azules also collaborate with artists such as Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Santana. Among the Colombians, Juanes stands out, with whom they had previously collaborated performing 'La Plata' in cumbia. For his part, Esteman recently participated in the Pride campaigns of digital platforms such as Spotify or Amazon Music at the regional level. The Colombian singer is also in the top of the most searched songs on Shazam Mexico with his track “Mr Trance”, and on TikTok he has thousands of videos of people using audio, where he is also among the viral songs on the social network.
