Éiner Rubio has managed to make a space among the important men of the Spanish team Movistar Team after showing that he has great skills in stage competitions, as he has shown this season and the previous two, when he reached the top category of cycling in Europe.
Coming out of the youth quarries formed by the Bogotá native Esteban Chaves (EF Education EasyPost), Éiner has been finishing up in several details as a climber and voltomaniac in one of the squads in which Colombian cyclists have been most successful, such as Nairo Quintana, who won in 2014 the Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta España in 2016, in addition to countless competitions in the eight seasons he spent.
Now the team led by Eusebio Unzué has enlisted him along with six other teammates to go for the best possible result in the Tour de Romandie. Rubio will be accompanied by Gregor Mühlberger, Johan Jacobs, Carlos Verona, Oscar Rodriguez, Lluís Mas and Puerto Rican Abner Gonzalez.

During the season he has started four rounds in stages and finished three, the last one was on the Alpine Tour, where most of the hard stages were held alongside the strongest runners: he finished 13th overall.
Meanwhile, in single-day races, such as the Calvia Trophy and the Pollença Trophy - Port d'Andratx, he placed 25th and 17th respectively. At the Strade Bianche in Italy it did not end. However, his good preparation is not only evidenced in results, but also in the way in which he develops in each race, having great skill in attack, escapes in hard ports and enduring in defensive cycling.
The Tour de Romandie 2022 will be held from April 26 to May 1. The route comprises 5 stages plus a prologue to the opening of the competition, which will also have routes suitable for sprinters, climbers and time trial riders with better performances on the climb.

The presence of more Colombian cyclists has yet to be confirmed, but it is assumed that Sergio Higuita (Bora hansgrohe) and Rigoberto Urán (EF Education EasyPost) will be in the Swiss competition.
In the history of the race, two Colombians have had the opportunity to stand out on the first stage of the podium. The first of them was Antioquia and today's cycling commentator, Santiago Botero, in 2005, when he belonged to the Swiss team Phonak Hearing Systems, and Nairo Quintana. 11 years later, with the Movistar Team.

Egan Bernal also made it to the podium in Romandy, but in 2nd place, in 2018, after having an exciting heads-up with Slovenian Primoz Roglic from Jumbo Visma.
