A bill by the Podemos Peru bank proposes the withdrawal of 100% of the Compensation for Time of Services (CTS) deposited to workers. The proposal is promoted by Congresswoman Digna Calle.
The legislator maintains that the objective of the regulation is “to alleviate the family economy affected by the consequences of the covid-19 pandemic and the current economic crisis facing our country”.
The autograph sets December 31, 2023 as the final deadline for withdrawing all the money from the aforementioned funds.
As a justification, it also points out that the economic conditions aroused since 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic have been prolonged until now, manifesting itself in price increases or inflation. It states that during the first quarter of this year, cumulative inflation was 1.99%.
“In this sense, we can say that we have quarterly inflation that exceeds the annual inflation reported in 2017 and 2019,” he says for food, education and transport, he says.
As a legislative background, it lists the laws and legislative decrees that, during the state of emergency, authorized workers to dispose of their STCs between 2020 and 2021.
“With the availability of these resources, workers will be able to purchase the products from the basic basket, as well as bear the expenses for health, education and others, which will affect their quality of life,” argued the parliamentarian.
CONGRESS APPROVED WITHDRAWAL OF MONEY FROM AFP
On April 12, the Congressional Committee on Economics, Banking, Finance and Financial Intelligence approved the bill authorizing Pension Fund Administrators (AFPs) to return up to 4 ITU to their members. This would be the sixth retirement of the Private Pension System (SPP).
The text reflects the ideas of several bills submitted to dispose of AFP deposits. In these, it has even been proposed to withdraw 2 ITU, 4 ITU and up to 100% of funds. It should be emphasized that 1 ITU in Peru is equivalent to S/4,600.
The decision was informed by Congressman Edgar Tello (Peru Libre) through his social networks.
“Today, the Committee on Economics approved the withdrawal of the 4 ITU from AFP by a majority. We are fulfilling the promises in favor of the contributors,” he said in a tweet.
As mentioned, this is the sixth SPP recall. On May 7, 2021, Law No. 31192 was published, which allowed a new extraordinary withdrawal of up to 4 ITU (S/17,600) from pension funds. Affiliates would have been expected to enter their application from 27 May until 24 August last year.
