The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation, through the Specialized Directorate Against Human Rights Violations, presented to a judge supervising guarantees two men who, in different events, had sent threatening messages on social networks against the former President of the Republic, Álvaro Uribe Vélez and the Roy Alejandro Barreras Montealegre.

The first to be prosecuted by the investigating body was Deibys Pérez Ramos, who was charged with the crime of instigation to commit an aggravated crime. According to the evidentiary material provided, Pérez Ramos would be responsible for threatening former President Álvaro Uribe Vélez in May 2019 through social media and relying on his virtual community.

The Prosecutor's Office noted that the threat occurred on the 17th of that month. In one publication, the man would have asked an illegal group to take up arms and attack the former president, who at the time was a congressman. The charge was not accepted by the defendant.

At that time, the Democratic Center issued a statement of rejection of threats against the leader of his party. “We reject the threats against former President Uribe, who has dedicated his life to serving Colombia well. We will continue to fight to build a Democratic State, framed by respect for the Law and the defense of legality. We ask the competent authorities to carry out the appropriate investigations, with full speed, since the seriousness of the situation warrants it,” the governing party said in the statement.

According to the bulletin delivered, “since the crime does not contemplate a custodial sentence, the Prosecutor's Office did not request an assurance measure”, but they warn that, with the evidence, they will file an indictment that could become a possible conviction.

On the other hand, the Prosecutor's Office also reported that William Pablo Andoque Sumaeta was charged with crimes of threats against human rights defenders and public servants.

Apparently, this man elaborated and disseminated two messages with death intimidation against Senator Roy Alejandro Barreras Montealegre. The publications were made on November 16, 2019 and were directed to the account that the congressman has on the social network Twitter. The defendant did not accept the charge either.

After receiving the threats against him, the senator asked the Attorney General's Office to add that threat to a list of several that he would have received at the time, following the debate in which he revealed that several minors were killed in a bombing in Puerto Rico, Caquetá.

The senator assured that the threats “were taking shape, strength and face,” specifically Brigadier General Jaime Ruiz Barrera, president of the Colombian Association of Retired Officers from the Military Forces (Acore), told Brigadier General (R).

“He was director of intelligence and counterintelligence, he knows how information is handled. He was commander of the Fourth Brigade in 1988 and 1989, and immediate superior of Rito Alejo del Río, today convicted of several crimes, and he could understand that his fanaticism against peace, the JEP, is due to fear of the truth. The general unleashed a whole media war, handed over my phone number to his networks,” Barrera said.

Although the defendant pleaded not guilty, the same happened as in the case of Uribe Vélez. “The Prosecutor's Office did not ask for an assurance measure, the law in these cases does not allow it, but the evidence becomes evidence to continue the investigation until a conviction is obtained,” can be read in the bulletin this Thursday, April 21.
