Not all the accessions of the Green Alliance militants are with the presidential candidate Gustavo Petro, those who are called the 'Green Hope' subgroup, led by former governor Carlos Amaya, formalized their support for the campaign of Sergio Fajardo, candidate for the Center Hope Coalition.
This was demonstrated this Thursday, April 21 at an event at the Dann Carlton Hotel in Bogotá where the “Great Green Hope National Meeting” was held where, according to Fajardo's campaign, 400 members of the sunflower party joined the candidacy of the former governor of Antioquia.
Many of the bishops who joined Fajardo are followers of Carlos Amaya, who placed third in the interparty consultation that defined the former mayor of Medellín as the center's presidential candidate.
According to Fajardo's team, deputies, councillors and councilors came from various sectors of the country who “today see Sergio Fajardo as the real alternative for change” and that is why they moved away from the 'Greens with Petro' and opted for who is now among the last positions in intention to vote for the Presidency of the Republic.
During his speech, the mathematician threw some political pulls at his contenders at the polls and assured that, if he comes to power, he will be the one who will lead the change that Colombia needs without resorting to traditional sectors of politics. However, it should be remembered that its campaign manager is the former minister in the previous government, Juan Fernando Cristo.
“Not everything goes, how to come to power is governed, we win with principles, with dreams and with ideals,” said the former governor of Antioquia, in front of recognized faces of the Green Alliance such as Senator Angelica Lozano, wife of Bogotá's mayor Claudia López, who was precisely Fajardo's vice-presidential formula in the presidential elections of 2018.
The event was also attended by other acquaintances from that match such as Ariel Avila, Antonio Sanguino, Jairo Castellanos, Ivan Marulanda, John Sudarsky. Moreover, the faces of the delegation of Centro Esperanza were also seen as Alejandro García and Juan Manuel Galán, from the New Liberalism.
The stage of the event was preceded by Carlos Amaya, who practically led the event, where he remembered that he burned in front of Fajardo in the last elections, but said he honored the word and assured that he will go with him until the end in this presidential contest.
Likewise, he assured that the foundations of the center community feel fully represented by those who finished third in the 2018 elections, which gave Iván Duque as winner and successor to Juan Manuel Santos. “This is the majority force of Green in Colombia, which builds political and party alternatives from the regions, which does not forget its origins in the Green Wave,” said Amaya.
For now, Fajardo continues to travel the country to achieve the “comeback” he has been selling since he was one of the least voted candidates in the March 13 elections. However, it seems that it has not worked for him, given that his voting intention does not take off, as recent electoral polls have shown.
