The National Civil Status Registry announced that on Sunday, April 24, atypical elections will be held in the municipalities of Achí, Bolívar, and Susa, Cundinamarca, in which the 23,089 inhabitants of these localities, who are entitled to participate in the elections, will decide at the polls who will be the next mayors.
In the municipality of Achí, the election day will be held on the basis of Decree 092 of March 14, 2022, which was issued by the Governor of Bolívar, Vicente Antonio Blel, in relation to the decision of the Administrative Court of this department, which ordered the elections to be repeated in this town because the destruction of electoral material in the past elections.
The court's decision, which was communicated to the National Civil Registry, the National Electoral Council and the Governor of Bolívar, determined the nullity of Juan Carlos Becerra Guzmán as mayor of Achi for the period 2020 - 2023, after the application of one of the candidates of this municipality in the Caribbean was accepted colombian.
“The National Civil Status Registry will install 21 polling stations, one in the municipal seat and 20 in municipalities, which will consist of 47 polls. In this municipality, 323 voting juries were appointed (284 incumbents and 39 remaining),” said the electoral authority, which indicated that 17,710 citizens are eligible to vote in these atypical elections.
In the case of the municipality of Susa, Cundinamarca, these elections will be held in compliance with Decree 050 of February 28, 2022, issued by the Governor of Cundinamarca, Nicolás García, after the recall process against the mayor of this municipality, Ximena Ballesteros, who became the second president of this municipality, of the country to be removed from office since this citizen mechanism came into force.
On February 21, the Registrar confirmed that 97.13% of the 1,672 voters who went to the polls marked “yes” on the card when asked whether they agreed with the mayor's recall endorsed by the Democratic Center, due to alleged breaches of the government's plan, which led to the rejection of the population.
“The Registrar's Office will install a polling station that will consist of 11 tables. There will be 73 voting juries (66 incumbents and seven remaining) who will serve on the democratic day. There are 5379 citizens, including 2,789 men and 2,590 women, who are entitled to vote in the atypical election of mayor in Susa (Cundinamarca),” said the electoral authority.
Finally, the Registraduria.gov.co recommended that citizens who wish to consult the voting station, do so through the entity's website www.registraduria.gov.co, under the option: Check your polling place here.
“Citizens are reminded that during election day it is mandatory to follow established biosecurity measures such as wearing a mask, physical distancing, hand disinfection and leaving the voting station once democratic right is exercised,” concluded the entity.
