During the vote on the Electricity Reform, which was rejected by the opposition, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) warned that, no matter what happened to his initiative, he would send to the Chamber of Deputies his version of the Mining Law, which was discussed and approved a day later, on Monday, April 18.
This legislation will ensure the creation of a State company responsible for the exploitation, exploration and exploitation of lithium, an element that will be reserved for the exclusive benefit of the people of Mexico, as indicated by the authorities.
“This initiative aims to ensure the nation's self-determination, as well as the people's energy sovereignty over lithium and other minerals that are strategic and necessary for energy transition, technological innovation and national development”, the first pages of the project indicate.
After the vote in the Senate, the legislator for the National Action Party (PAN) presumed her vote against it and stated that this strategy of the Tabasqueño would only be to “steal” and “privatize” Lithium in favor of the federal government.
“I voted against the creation of AMLITIO. Morena approved a state monopoly to steal Mexico's lithium and privatized it for the exclusive gain of López Obrador and his accomplices. In the next six years we will correct this aberration,” he wrote from his Twitter account.
In addition to comments against it by users who are supporters of the Fourth Transformation (Q4), it seemed that this message would pass as one more on digital platforms, but this April 21 López Obrador mocked him during his morning press conference.
His statements came after he submitted a survey on networks to choose, between two proposals, the possible name that the new company will have, although he assured that one in he was very amused.
“It was just that it made me laugh to see it and we shouldn't lose my sense of humor. There is someone who did a survey, who asked if he called 'AMLITIO'”, he said during the “morning”.
Contrary to what could be associated, this name is explicitly not related to the president, since it would be the acronym for “Mexican Lithium Agency”. The second proposal would be “Mexican Lithium (LITIOMEX)”, which he assured is already registered.
On this subject, Andrés Manuel decided to refer to the tweet written by Tellez on April 19, noting that the senator herself proposed the name AMLITIO. In addition, he recalled that he will seek to break with the “excuse of the neoliberals”, which was about building private monopolies to “sell all the goods of the nation.”
He later indicated that he is not against the thought of the panista, although he was the culprit, he argued, that in previous six-year periods there was the “greatest looting ever recorded in the history of Mexico, that thought and that is what they long for,” added López Obrador.
Because of these statements, the native of Sonora appeared on social networks to defend herself. With a photograph of her in her seat within the Senate of the Republic, she spoke about the “morningera” and clarified the difference in thought that, in her opinion, she has with the president.
“Today President López Obrador declared in his conference that he and I think differently. I publicly acknowledge that he is right: I think with my head and he with my feet,” he wrote on his official Twitter account.
The federal government has 90 days to present this company dedicated to the exploitation of lithium, which, according to AMLO, will intend not to “be very efficient, that they are really people of absolute trust, honest, experts in the mining issue or in the public administration”.
