They order the capture of the former mayor of Buenaventura accused of collaborating with the drug traffickers

An arrest warrant weighs on the former mayor of Bonaventure, Maby Yineth Viera Ángulo, who will go to jail after being charged with illicit enrichment and collaboration with a drug trafficker during her administration.

Recently, the Attorney General's Office reported that a judge of second instance in Cali revoked the decision of the judge of guarantees who last February refrained from imposing an insurance measure against the former official.

As a result, an arrest warrant was released that Maby Yineth Viera Angulo must comply with in a prison establishment.

It should be noted that the accusing body charged the former president with the crimes of illicit enrichment, money laundering and a concert to commit crimes. This was done after the appeal filed by a specialized prosecutor of the Cali Sectional who disagreed with the determination made by a trial judge who released the defendant.

The facts for which the former mayor of Buenaventura is accused

According to information from the Attorney General's Office, Viera Angulo is allegedly responsible for orchestrating unlawful actions to conceal property, among others.

The investigations established that possible irregularities committed by the former mayor of Buenaventura would have benefited the former president and some of her relatives; likewise, those actions would have favored the Buenos Aires drug trafficker Gustavo Adolfo Vega Archibold, as well as her friends and family.

The Prosecutor's Office succeeded in establishing that the former official was apparently romantically involved with the above-mentioned offender.

The entity also reported that the judicial police work carried out by servers of the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Cali Sectional, established that Viera Angulo had acquired, retained and administered assets of illicit origin, which it would have sought to give the appearance of legality.

Among these are six assets managed by the defendant, that is, the former mayor of Buenaventura, which would have meant an unjustified increase in assets exceeding 664 million pesos.

These events would have occurred during the years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011, during which time the former official would not have declared the real value of her assets.

For these same events, seven more people were prosecuted between December 2021 and January of this year. Among the defendants are the former alcandesa's father, her father, a brother and two uncles of the late drug trafficker; as well as a lawyer and another former partner of Gustavo Adolfo Vega Archibold.

Iván Duque appointed Maby Viera as mayor (e) of Buenaventura

It should be recalled that in 2018 the President of the Republic, Iván Duque, appointed Maby Yineth Viera Angulo, as mayor (e) of Buenaventura, the only woman in the list of professionals who could hold that position.

Viera Angulo is a social communicator and journalist graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Occidente and has served as Secretary of Ethnic Affairs in the Government of Valle del Cauca, as well as an advisor to the High Council for Women of the Presidency, and High Counselor (e) for Women in the Presidency of the Republic, among other positions.
