On Earth Day, the French-American studio Disneynature presents us with a story framed in the importance of preserving animal life during the context of climate change. Polar Bear is a documentary film that stars the brave mother of a bear cub in the Arctic, the coldest place on the planet that she will have to cross to survive dangers and hunger.
In order to build a better society, a range of content on Disney+ is focused on informing and educating both children and adults. How is the need to conserve nature and avoid the extinction of more species demonstrated? This production tells us a story from the perspective of an endangered animal who, despite the difficulties of its environment, continues its challenging journey to save its lineage.
The young polar bear that takes us on this journey evokes her childhood memories to face the adversities of today's polar bear world, one that is being severely affected by the melting of glaciers caused by global warming. In the original English version, the American actress Catherine Keener is responsible for giving voice to the protagonist who recounts the many decisions she will make along the way with the aim of saving her first calf.
Life is not the same as before, it is what Polar Bear is trying to warn us about. The huge ice she once knew in the coldest part of the Earth is melting and food is increasingly scarce. In this way, he shows us his past, when he moved with his hairy paws across a very different Earth with his twin and his fierce mother. The family fed on seals that they hunted frequently to ensure their survival.
The experience of filming Polar Bear at the North Pole
Alastair Fothergill and Jeff Wilson direct this magnificent cinematographic visual proposal in which they had to move 480 km from the North Pole. On the Polar Bear Trail, a special Disney+ behind the scenes, shows how the entire production team embarked on a challenging adventure where they created a local arctic camp, experienced extreme climates and moved between fragile ice floors to closely document the adaptive behavior of a polar bear and its breeding in very hard times for animal life.
In this unique experience for the filmmakers, the relentless mother bear dazzles the very minds behind this film at every moment of crisis in which it seeks to perpetuate its existence. At the same time, this condition in order to find itself in this changing landscape allows the public to be aware of climate change. The project was carried out in conjunction with Polar Bears International (PBI), a non-profit organization that ensures the conservation of polar bears through research, education and action programs.
Polar Bear and On the Road to the Polar Bear were released this April 22 in the Disney+ catalog .
