With 212 days left until the start of the next Qatar 2022 World Cup, FIFA announced when the suspended match between Brazil and Argentina will be played valid for date 6 of the South American Qualifiers. Through a statement issued, the entity established that the duel must be disputed on September 22.

The text of the letter sent to Víctor Blanco, President of Racing and current secretary general of the AFA, reads as follows: “We want to inform you that the match will have to be played in Brazil on September 22, 2022,” indicates the brief report on the rescheduling of the match between the two best teams of the classification.

Regarding the details of the match, FIFA invited the Brazilian Football Confederation to “report the details of the match (venue, stadium and time)” with a deadline of June 22. The statement is signed by Colin Smith, the head of tournaments and events of the entity that governs football destinations around the world.

It should be remembered that on February 14, the entity presided over by Gianni Infantino decided that the party had to return to dispute. In this way, the heads-up that began to be played on September 5, 2021 at the Arena Corinthians stadium, in the city of São Paulo, had been rescheduled with an important fact: the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) had lost its location, something that was now modified and the match will be played in Brazilian territory.

Faced with this scenario, it will be necessary to see how the negotiations take place so that the meeting takes place a few months after the start of the World Cup. What FIFA did was to notify both federations of its resolution of the case.

After the statement was released, AFA lawyer Patón Urich gave his opinion. “It's a rescheduling of the Playoffs match. It is hasty because there is not yet the answer to our appeal,” confirmed the lawyer of the Mother House.

“We are awaiting the decision of the appeals committee and we hope that in the first or second week of May we have a resolution,” he added.

When news broke that FIFA announced that the suspended match had to be played again, Chiqui Tapia showed his discontent on social media. “As President of AFA (Argentine Football Association), I pledge to make every effort, and to appeal FIFA's ruling in reference to the knockout match with Brazil. Our priority is the Argentine National Team, always”, declared the top manager albiceleste.

In the previous communication, fines were also established for both associations and it was decided that Argentine players Emiliano Buendía, Emiliano Martínez, Giovani Lo Celso and Cristian Romero would be suspended for two matches for failing to comply with the FIFA Protocol for International Matches of Return to Football.

In relation to economic sanctions, CBF will have to pay a fine of 500,000 Swiss francs - some 540,000 US dollars - “as a result of violations committed against security and public order.” For its part, the AFA will have to pay 200 thousand Swiss francs - USD 216 thousand - due to “the failure to comply with its obligations with regard to security and public order, the preparations for the party and its participation”.

After “a thorough investigation of the various factual elements and in view of the regulations in force”, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee concluded that “the suspension of the meeting responded to various deficiencies in the respective responsibilities and obligations of the parties involved,” he stressed in the statement issued on March 14. last February.
