Mystery and consternation over corpses found in garbage bags during Easter in Bogotá

The Metropolitan Police reports that 10 bodies without life and signs of torture have appeared in the streets of the capital in April

Corpses cut, tied hands and feet and wrapped in garbage bags are part of the worrying number of murders that are taking place in Bogotá so far in April 2022.

Some of these lifeless bodies have been found in hybrid channels and there are already 10 cases that dismayed the authorities of the Capital District, after reports from the Bogotá Metropolitan Police reported that citizens ran into the victims, as if they were ill-disposed waste in public space .

Although the authorities initially suspected only four cases, having passed 21 days in April, these systematic deaths worry the community about the possibility of the same criminal group or a serial killer.

On Saturday, April 2, in the towns of San Cristobal and Usme, two bodies were found in a wooded area. Both deceased were approximately 25 years old and were found with obvious gunshot wounds on their skulls. According to a police hypothesis, the double homicide would have been committed days ago.

However, on April 12 in Plaza España, in the town of Los Mártires, a street dweller alerted the security forces to the presence of two black garbage bags that also contained bodies: the first of them, mutilated and with stab wounds, and the second with bullet wounds.

With signs of torture, tied hands and feet and packed in plastic bags, these bodies were the sign that possibly the first two cases were not isolated cases.

According to the newspaper El Tiempo, the first versions of these crude murders indicate that they could be cases of settling accounts in the control of the microtrafficking business in different areas of the capital.

However, Colonel Ernesto Goyes, an inspection officer of the Bogotá Police, has not yet been able to establish that there is a criminal pattern among the killings, despite the fact that there are coincidences in the way in which the persons in question were killed.

The dismay does not end there, because in the middle of Holy Week and until Wednesday, April 20, six more bodies appeared, located between the towns of San Cristobal, Teusaquillo, Usme, Engativa and Kennedy, as waste wrapped in black garbage bags. All these corpses appeared with their throats cut.

The Secretary of Security of Bogotá, Aníbal Fernández de Soto, spoke about the security problem that this case is becoming and said that the secretariat will prioritize the investigation and intervention of criminal gangs and microtrafficking networks operating in the city with rewards that allow witnesses to these events denounce more homicides.

At 10:30 a.m. on Holy Thursday (April 14), on 26th Street with Carrera 30, the body of a man was abandoned in a black bag and this action was witnessed by the commander of the Teusaquillo locality station, Colonel Sandra Lancheros, who said that the body was tied hand and foot with signs of torture:
