After announcing that since May 1, the use of the mask in open places will be optional, the head of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), Jorge López, stressed that this the measure does not negate the fact that the population continues to present their card with the full vaccination schedule.
According to what López Peña said, if people want to enter the different closed public environments, the presentation of their vaccination card is still valid and mandatory, since this has not been withdrawn from the new protocols against COVID-19.
In this sense, the minister recalled that the optional use of the mask applies only in regions where more than 80% of the population over 60 years old applied the third dose, and 80% of the population aged 12 and over, both doses.
So far, these regions are Ica (85.1%), Callao (84.9%), Metropolitan Lima (83.5%), Lima Provincias (83.0%) and Áncash (80.7%).
These same departments comply with the second provision, which is to have 80% coverage of vaccination with two doses in people aged 12 and over. The order is similar, first is Ica, with 95.7%; followed by Callao (93.4%), Lima Provincias (93.2%), Metropolitan Lima (92.5%) and Áncash (92.1%).
With regard to the return of face-to-face work in the public sector, he indicated that it is necessary for staff to be vaccinated with all three doses, meanwhile, of the capacity is being evaluated with the technical team to give the respective standards and protocols.
Vulnerable medical personnel must undergo a prior evaluation and those who can return will return in person. “We call on the population to continue to go to vaccination centers, to complete their vaccination schedule and avoid the use of an ICU bed. People need to be aware of their health care,” he said.
