Judge Erik Zabalgoitia Novales, holder of the Fourteenth District Court of Amparo in criminal matters, ordered the criminal judge responsible for the trial against Cuauhtémoc “N”, former leader of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), to stop the proceedings in which he finds himself for crimes of trafficking in persons .
The magistrate asked that no sentence be handed down yet, because he admitted to an amparo trial promoted on April 19 by the defendant, former president of the PRI of the then Federal District, and, for the fifth time in a row, he issued a resolution at the request of the PRI politician with the intention that it not be handed down sentence.
It reads in the agreement.
However, this resolution does not imply the freedom of the accused, who is being held in the maximum security prison of the Altiplano, municipality of Almoloya de Juárez in the State of Mexico, but is part of the trial that he brought Cuauhtémoc “N”, also called King of Garbage against the formal prison order issued to him last March.
On April 2, 2014, a revelation strongly shook Mexican politics after a journalistic investigation by Carmen Aristegui's team of reporters at MVS News revealed that within the capital's PRI, there was a prostitution ring run by the then official.
The work generated controversy in politics and although it led Cuauhtémoc “N” to resign as party leader, he or any of the recruiters were not legally prosecuted. It was until September 2020 that the Mexico City Attorney General's Office reopened the case.
On December 29, 2021, the authorities announced the capture of the former leader of the Union of Pepenadores in the city, accused of the crime of trafficking in persons in its form of sexual exploitation. According to the first reports, the Public Ministry of the Coordination of Investigation of Gender Crimes requested and obtained a search warrant against the PRI, who was captured by officers of the Investigative Police (PDI).
On January 4 of this year, a common court judge issued a prison order against Cuauhtémoc “N”, for having committed human trafficking, as an attempt in the form of sexual exploitation, misleading advertising and criminal association.
And only on March 22, he received another order of formal imprisonment from the head of the Seventeenth Criminal Court, who is handling the case of the former PRI leader. The legal measure against the politician was carried out hours after the completion of new arrest warrants against him and two of his collaborators , as more victims lodged complaints with the capital's prosecutor's office.
