Instagram is testing with some users a new “timely” feature for hashtags, which will allow you to view photos with the most “likes” or reels related to the tag. According to Meta's company, this modality allows you to combine “recent and timely content”.
Through a post on their Twitter account, Meta's platform said they are trying out new things that include viewing more popular posts, while it is removing the option of “Recent”.
“We want to see if this helps people connect with more interesting and relevant content on hashtags, while keeping them informed about what is current,” the platform said about this testing feature.
When searching for a hashtag, three sections appear: “Featured”, “Recent” and “Reels”. With the new modality there will be only two options: “Featured” and “Reels”.
That is, it will give preference to more popular publications, leaving down recent publications that have no reach, making it difficult to see new content and making it difficult for users to be seen.
Hashtags had been introduced at the beginning to help highlight or have fun being part of the trends of the moment, however, they are now used to gain visibility on the platform, and consequently to have more likes, comments and followers.
This version will be in the trial period to see if it is deployed to all users. Instagram will review whether users prefer to see new posts, regardless of their reach, or just want to see popular content.
It should be remembered that other platforms have looked for ways to get their users to interact with more content.
For example, Twitter made a change in the algorithm for users to see tweets on a certain timeline, but since it was not to the liking, it reversed the modality.
This past March, the Meta platform added new modalities to review the feed or home page to favor navigation and influencers. Through the “Favorites” and “Following” tab, instagramers can shape their experience.
It will display the posts of the selected accounts in chronological order. That is, you can choose the favorite accounts from which you don't want to lose any content.
Up to 50 accounts can be added to the list and changes made at any time; people are not notified when they are added or deleted. Accounts' posts in the Favourites list will also be displayed higher up in the Home Feed, and are displayed with a star icon.
“Get up to speed quickly with the accounts that matter most to you, starting with the most recent posts.”
It will show posts only from people who follow each other. “See the latest posts from the accounts you follow, in the order they were published.”
Both Favorites and Following will display posts in chronological order, so you can quickly catch up on recent posts.
In the case of Startup you don't have to change anything, since as mentioned above, it will always be displayed that way. On the other hand, to use Favorites and Following, you must tap on where it says Instagram in the upper left corner of the home page to choose what you want to see.
“Everyone uses Instagram differently and we hope these options can help people decide what works best for them,” the Meta platform noted.
According to an analysis carried out by Instagram, users are happier when there is a Feed classified by algorithms, so they are no longer making a standard of a chronological feed that will help not miss certain posts.
