Subjects also offered podiatry work and used the same dental utensils, both for the mouth and feet.

Some subjects set up a tent on Aviación Avenue, in the district of La Victoria, to offer their dental and podiatry services. This business did not have authorization, much less qualified personnel, so through an operation the Peruvian National Police (PNP) around four o'clock in the afternoon, arrested these six people in charge of running the business.

Colonel Jorge Barboza, head of the Centro 2 Police Division, commented that the detainees were foreigners and were found on the spot when they put braces. His clients included minors and older adults.

“They did dental service, but we presumed that they also did another service, such as podiatry at the same time. They mixed the instruments that are used for the mouth. All the detainees were of Venezuelan nationality,” he said in Latina.

These devices, I understand, are disposable, single-use, they seem to have recycled them. They didn't count on the teams. Apparently, they were doing podiatry work for the instruments we found on the site,” he added.

The subjects were identified as David Polanco, Jesús Moreno Colmenares, Anderson López Godoy, David Cespedes Bolivar, Jesus Berríos Hernandez and Alvaro Bolivar Davila.

In addition, the prices for these interventions ranged from 30 soles and they also carried out home-based work. They even gave a WhatsApp number for their customers to contact them.

Those involved did not have higher education to carry out this type of work. “It seems, I think, that these people would have learned through videos that are offered on the internet and have seen a way to earn a living, but none of them have gone through technical studies, let alone university,” he said.

UNTITLED DENTISTS DECEIVED SETTLERS

A few weeks ago in Huancayo, two dental offices were operated on that treated patients without professional qualifications and authorization. The intervention was carried out by the Second Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Crime Prevention, Huancayo, State Security, the National Police, the dean of the College of Dentists of Junín, the commune of Huayucachi and the police station of that district.

First, we arrived at the office “Dental Prosthesis Laboratory”, located on Calle Real No. 174, where the person of Edgar Q.R. (47) was found, performing a tooth extraction on a woman, however, this person would not have the professional title or qualification of the College.

Another establishment located on the second floor of Calle Real No. 143, in Huayucachi, was also operated. In this place Elmer C.C. (44) was found, performing a tooth extraction on a male. The authorities verified that he also did not have a title and authorization for this exercise.

In both cases, the authorities ordered the seizure of dental machines, X-rays, among others, whose value exceeds 100 thousand soles. Both alleged dentists were arrested for the crime of illegal practice of the profession, at the request of the Prosecutor's Office.

MORE THAN 6,000 FAKE DENTISTS OPERATE ILLEGALLY

The Dental College of Peru (COP) warned that in our country, until 2018, there are more than six thousand false dentists who have been operating in illegal clinics. According to the institution, these people act in unsanitary conditions, putting at serious risk the health of citizens, who are exposed to contracting infectious diseases.

One of the most common diseases contracted is hepatitis B, which can end in cirrhosis or liver cancer, HIV or lifelong paresthesia.

“We have to be warned not to fall into the hands of these unscrupulous subjects. It is necessary to suspect when extremely low prices, or large promotions, or discounts are exhibited. In addition, patients must request the number of tuition fees of those who treat them,” said David Vera Trujillo, national dean of the COP.
