Due to lack of drinking water, protests are taking place in the south of Bogotá

Parents, teachers and students of the María Mercedes Carranza school denounced the lack of water supply

Through a peaceful sit-in, parents, teachers and students of the María Mercedes Carranza school, in southern Bogotá, protested the lack of drinking water supply in the institution.

Located in the town of Ciudad Bolívar, they asked the District authorities to solve the problem that is affecting the health of students.

This is due to damage to the school pipeline, to which partial repairs have been made, but not a definitive fix, so the problem persists; a problem that has been occurring for more than 15 years, according to members of the educational community.

Students have reported that the bathrooms are dirty and full of faeces and, moreover, that they cannot wash their hands until they leave the institution.

The Ministry of Education responded to the peaceful sit-in of the educational community, noting that the situation is already being addressed and that work is being carried out to fix the pipeline and the emergency in the school's hydraulic systems.

The students of the Mercedes Ábrego Technical Institute in the city of Cúcuta (Norte de Santander) and the people who were walking through the school zone, lived minutes of anguish on the afternoon of this Wednesday, April 20, after a 15-year-old girl, allegedly, had launched herself from a pedestrian bridge located on avenue The Liberators.

The events took place around 12:40 noon when the students of the educational institution were about to leave the premises, after the end of their academic day. According to the first versions, the young woman, who is in tenth grade, climbed the bridge and dropped her bag and then jumped into the void.

The minor, who was identified as Nicolle Patiño, suffered serious head injuries after the fall, so she was rushed to the Erasmo Meoz University Hospital . “It is serious; it looked bad, but it was not convenient to move it,” one of the witnesses of the events told Semana magazine.

After the regrettable event, a second hypothesis of the fall of the young woman began to be filmed among the community. According to an audio that circulates on social networks, where the mother of a student at that school allegedly speaks, the girl under the age of 15 would not have tried to commit suicide, but would have fallen off the bridge in the middle of a game with her classmates.

“The girl did not commit suicide, the girl is my son's classmate at school and she suffered it was an accident, she was with some classmates playing on the bridge and without wanting to throw the girl, that is, maybe they pushed her, I don't know, those rough games of the children, but it wasn't suicide”, the woman is heard saying on the recording.
