Colombian cyclists completed 13 stage victories on 4 different continents so far in the 2022 season

The Colombian riders have had a fairly good first semester at the sporting level, achieving victories in 4 of the world's continents, the “beetles” as Colombian cyclists are usually known, have achieved 13 victories so far in the 2022 season.

With the most recent one won by Miguel Ángel López in the Tour of the Alps, coffee growers have been seen in great shape to the point of being considered favorites in several competitions on the calendar.

Two of the riders who have most contributed to the addition of the national pedal sports record for this first half were Nairo Quintana of Arkea Samsic with his two stage wins and subsequent overall victory during the Alpes-Maritimes Tour and the Tour de la Provence and Fernando Gaviria with the UEA Team Emirates, who before being injured won two victories during the Tour of Oman.

Both are the most winning runners of the season for Colombia, however, in the harvest of stage victories, cyclists such as Didier Merchán and Jhonatan Restrepo of Drone Hopper Androni Giocattoli, Nicolás David Gomez from Italy's Colpack Ballan, Johan Colón and Marco Tulio Suesca of Paisa Pride were important in terms of enlarging the list.

On the other hand, Sergio Higuita as national road champion now with Bora hansgrohe managed to win the overall victory of the Vuelta a Catalunya, but speaking of stages, the Antioquia raised his arms during matchday 5 of the Vuelta al Algarve against his former teammate and compatriot Daniel Felipe Martínez of the Ineos Grenadiers.

Daniel would later take it out by winning the Basque Country general plus one stage against world champion Julian Alaphilippe of the Quick Step Alpha Vinyl. Soachuno has managed to be distinguished by his good physical condition in every competition he has done in Europe and is now seen as one of the favorites to fight for the 2022 Tour de France against two-time UAE Team Emirates champion Tadej Pogacar, who has won the victory in two consecutive years, according to England's Cyclingnews portal.

Finally, the victory of Bogotá's Santiago Buitrago with Bahrain Victorious during stage 2 of the Saudi Tour completes the 13 wins for the Colombians so far in the 2022 season.

The same favoritism for the Tour de France has been involved in the boyacense Nairo Quintana, because in the competitions in which he has been able to keep fighting side by side with the strongest and most important riders of the world platoon, thus returning to having a hierarchy as a runner thinking about the great laps of the this season's schedule.

With these results, Colombia reaches 13 stage wins in 4 different continents of the world, passing through Europe, Africa, Asia and America.

It is expected that the good streak of Colombian cyclists will last throughout the season and can, in addition, continue for the next ones, because in the international platoon there are more and more young coffee cyclists preparing to give Colombia more joy as has done Egan Bernal, Nairo Quintana, Rigoberto Urán, among others.
