Following the approval of the Mining Law in the Senate of the Republic, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) presented the possible names of the company that will control lithium in the country.
During his traditional morning press conference from the National Palace, the federal president was questioned about the name that will be given to the company in charge of controlling the ore.
In response, the chief executive said that the names that Moreno Regeneración Nacional (Morena) is promoting on social networks are Mexican Lithium Agency (Amlitio) and Mexican Lithium (Lithiomex).
The options proposed by the cherry party are word games: the first unites the acronym of the name of the federal president and that of the mineral, while in the second the abbreviation of Mexico is added, similar to that of Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
On the second proposal, President López Obrador commented that you should look for a name that is not registered, since he recalled that there was already a company registered as Litomex, and “there is one that has the name Molitiomex”.
While with Amlitio, the president said that in his political will he stated that no work, statue or anything should have his name, so the proposal was discarded.
During his morning, the chief executive also indicated that the public company will be presenting in approximately 90 days: “We will seek that it is not a bureaucratic apparatus; that it is very efficient, that they are really people of absolute trust, honest, experts in the mining issue or in public administration.”
He explained that it is analyzed which unit it will be attached to, since they could be the secretariats of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), Energy (Sener) and Economics (SE) or the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
“Let's see where it suits best and start working with the geological system and not just think about the short term. This is going to take time,” he said.
The president said that soon work on exploration, extraction and transformation of the nation's strategic ore will begin. In addition, he said, the plan to be followed in which investment opportunities will be considered will be announced.
Morena conducted a survey to choose the name of the company
Last Wednesday, April 20, the Movimiento Regeneración Nacional party shared on its social networks a poll for users to vote for the name they like best.
“Now that lithium is owned by the nation and its exploitation and exploitation will be in charge of the State, what name would you like the agency responsible for its administration to bear?” , asked the cherry party.
The options found are Amlitio and Litiomex; at the end of the vote on Twitter there was a participation of 17,508 votes, of which 58.1 percent voted for Lithiomex, while 41.9 percent went for Amlitio.
Meanwhile, a total of two thousand 810 votes were recorded on his Facebook account: 1,827 prefer to call the company in charge of lithium Amlitio and 876 Litiomex.
Before its publication, the reactions of netizens were not long in coming, because although some users participated in the vote, others took the opportunity to criticize Morena's “shameless” action.
“Wow I thought it was a meme”, “Just excuse to want to name everything” and “AMLITIO would be the best! Can we suggest others? How 'Follies of the Emperor'”, were some of the comments.
