In the world of numismatics, dozens of collectors are still searching for a new copy every day. However, sometimes the prices of pieces are very high, such is the case of a currency that, despite being of low denomination, is offered at more than 145 thousand pesos on a website.
It is an old piece that according to a citizen who offers the piece on a commercial internet platform, presents multiple coinage errors. And it is that despite being a different piece, the ideal is to visit an expert to find out its real price.
In this regard, it will also be important to remember that although citizens can sell their copies at the cost they want, since it is objects of their property, the pieces must contain certain elements in order to increase their value, specialists affirmed.
What is the cost and currency we are talking about?
The old piece has a denomination of 20 cents and was put into circulation in 1943. According to Banco de México (Banxico), it is part of the AA family, which means that the pieces of this group were put into circulation in the seventies and eighties.
In 1992 they were in the process of being withdrawn. They are currently demonetized because they belong to the monetary unit in force until December 31, 1992; this means that they are no longer valid for transactions because they lack liberatory power. Its current value is equivalent to the result of the division of the denomination they indicate, by one thousand.
This piece called “Phrygian cap” has a 95% copper composition, a diameter of 28.5 mm, circular shape and smooth edge.
It shows on its reverse the number “20″, the inscription “cents” in capital letters, a composition formed by the Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl volcanoes and the pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacán, the year of issue and symbol of the Mexican Mint “M°”, as well as the plain frame with triangular graphics.
While on its obverse is the traditional National Shield of the eagle devouring a snake and the phrase “United Mexican States” forming the upper semicircle.
The currency is quoted at up to 150 thousand pesos by the Mercado Libre trading platform. And according to the person who markets it, it has multiple coinage errors, both on the front and on the back of the piece. Only in the central part of the coin is there a rare imperfection, according to the image.
Hundreds of coins are sold every day online at extraordinary prices. Yet another example with a coinage error is a copy with the image of Francisco Xavier Mina, a commemorative piece that was created in honor of the beginning of Independence and that was put into circulation in 2008, according to data from Banxico.
According to Banxico, it is one of the 37 commemorative coins that were created as a tribute to the historical events of Mexico's Independence (19) and the Revolution (18), which began to circulate from 2008 to 2010.
The alleged error is presumed in the upper letters of the piece, since according to the user who markets it, the alleged error is because they form a double stroke, that is, the letters are marked twice.
It should be remembered that although according to specialists, one of the elements of coins to be able to increase their value is that it is “a different piece” as is the case with the coin of Francisco Primo Really. However, the prices they handle in these cases are still very high.
