Emilia Romagna's Grand Prix activity began in Italy, where the first sprint race of the 2022 Formula 1 season will take place, so since this Friday the qualifying day was held, one that was marked by rain and a series of accidents that broke more than 40 minutes the session.
The one who suffered greatly from these circumstances was the Mexican driver Sergio Pérez, who arrived with high expectations due to his optimal performance in the last two qualifications; however, the Tapatio was one of the most affected by the weather, since during his best times, the clashes of Carlos Sainz and Kevin Magnussen caused him to abort his fastest lap.
As if that were not enough, in his last attempt to improve his timer, a new clash by Lando Norris ruined Checo Pérez's lap again and he didn't have time to make another one, so he came in seventh place with a mark of 1:29 .808, almost two seconds away from his teammate Max Verstappen.
Due to this situation, Checo Pérez confirmed his terrible day of Qualy, because his demand and that of the team is to keep up with or above his teammate and to be at the top of the grid, so he described the qualifying as a “disaster” for various reasons.
“A disaster the qualification. It was important to put temperature at the start of qualifying and we were waiting almost 2 minutes at the end of the pitlane and then the same thing on the last attempt. With the red flags I couldn't warm up the tires,” said the Mexican according to Fox Sports.
In addition to the red flags, Sergio hinted that the day had generally been negative, but hoping to recover in the rest of the weekend, as the car had a high pace.
“A disappointing day, but only the beginning of the weekend. It just didn't seem to work for me today. However, I am satisfied with the pace of the car, I hope to progress during the sprint and get a good starting position for Sunday's race,” said the Mexican in statements collected by @PrimeF1_.
