39 fines leaves the first day of prohibition to the man barbecue

Most drivers complied with the restriction measure of the male barbecue in Bogotá, which began to take effect on the night of last Thursday, April 21. However, the request to put the plaque in visible places on the helmet and clothing has been less welcome.

According to the balance given by the commander (e) of the capital's Traffic Police, Colonel Wilson Urrego, uniformed personnel are operating throughout the city to verify that the regulations imposed to improve the city's security are being complied with following the attack on the CAI in Ciudad Bolivar that left two minors of old dead. “It was a positive day,” he added.

According to the uniformed, only 39 people violated the restriction and were subject to the fine, which is close to the average monthly minimum wage. In addition, 34 of these motorcyclists had their vehicles immobilized. “It is something minimal for the number of motorcyclists who travel in Bogotá. So, importantly, we want to congratulate them on compliance with these restrictions that are in favor of citizen security,” said the colonel.

It should be recalled that this measure will apply on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from 7:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., and excludes law enforcement agencies, relief and health agencies; private security personnel; transportation of persons with disabilities, insurers and chosen driver.

People are having more trouble marking their helmets and apparel with motorcycle license plates, although fines have been proportionally low with respect to the total number of motorcycles. Since April 18, when it came into force, more than 290 cases have been imposed for failing to comply with this measure.

Colonel Urrego recalled the guidelines for the marking of helmets: “The norm does not require the script. It expresses only that it is on a dark background, that the letter is Arial, that it is reflective and that it measures 3.5 centimeters with a centimeter of tracing”.

Motorcycle riders will have the option, if they consider it appropriate, but only additional to that of the helmet, to wear the identification on the vest or clothing, with the same characteristics whose size shall be at least nine centimetres high by four centimetres wide for each letter or number.

The officer recalled that the use of the vest with visible plaque is of a voluntary nature, but the non-use of marking on the helmet is also grounds for a fine for half a monthly minimum wage.

It should be remembered that the restriction will be effective until June 30, 2022. It was also established in Decree 119 of 2022 that these measures will be evaluated jointly between the district administration and the National Police, within two months of their issuance, in order to verify their effectiveness and continuity.

“The most important thing is that here we have only one common purpose, which is to take care of our families, to take care of Bogotá from that criminal and terrorist threat that we are facing. We have reached additional agreements to those we had already announced. Two measures in particular such as: keeping the license plate of the motorcycles visible to any authority or camera in the city, and including one more exception to the companion, that is to say that there will be only restriction to man barbecue. There will be no restriction if the companion is a woman,” said Claudia López, mayor of Bogotá, of these measures.

He added that, “thanks to the motorcycle organizations for their willingness to cooperate for the safety of Bogotá's families. We talked, we arranged and at this time we told the citizens the conclusions of our meeting.”
