Trailer for “Heartstopper”. (Netflix)

In 2016 Alice Oseman began publishing on Patreon the digital comics that told the friendship of Charlie and Nick, two high school students, which turns into a romance and an exploration of self-knowledge. Over four volumes, Heartstopper became a massive phenomenon — amassing 52.1 million views — and attracted the attention of Netflix, which prepared this series and premieres it on Friday, April 22.

Over the course of eight episodes, Joe Locke as Charlie and Kit Connor as Nick will experience the encounter between a very intelligent young man, who thinks too much about everything, and a simple and good-hearted rugby lover. Friendship between them seems unlikely; however, they connect in a very obvious way. They soon understand that the relationship could go a little further, be something else in reality, and they begin to pass through youthful love, the strength of new feelings, the importance of support and acceptance.

The British Osman production is also a creator and screenwriter, with a cast that includes Sebastian Croft, William Gao, Yasmin Finney, bCorinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Cormac Hyde-Corrin, Tobie Donovan and Rhea Norwood. The executive producers are Patrick Walters, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, as well as their director, Eros Lyn.
