The play 'The colonel has no one to write to him' will be released in Medellín

The play, directed by Jorge Alí Trina and with actors such as Germán Jaramillo, Santiago Moure and Laura García, will be released in the capital of Antioquia this Friday 22 and Saturday 23 April at the Metropolitan Theater

The colonel has no one to write to him is “the first great novel by Gabriel García Márquez”, according to Jorge Alí Triana, director of the play that recreates this work of the literary nobel and which was first published in 1961, telling the story of a former military man who, under the neglect encountered when he wanted to claim his pension, clings to a rooster that ends up becoming a symbol of hope in the midst of being on the verge of resignation.

It is precisely this detail that the director recreates in this work that, after conquering Bogotá after its creation, intends to take Medellín in a double function that will be held at the Metropolitan Theater. All the montage and scenery exhibited at the Teatro Colón in the country's capital will be seen in the City of Eternal Spring, not to mention its luxury cast.

In addition to Triana's already striking direction, 'The Colonel has no one to write to him' moves from lyrics to tables on behalf of a cast led by renowned actor Germán Jaramillo, who gives life to the colonel, as well as Laura García, Santiago Moure and John Álex Toro. This is not a new challenge for the director, since he had previously had direct contact with the work of García Márquez based on theatrical adaptations of The Incredible and Sad Story of Candid Eréndira and Her Heartless Grandmother and Chronicle of an Announced Death.

In addition, within his artistic life he has brought to the big screen other titles such as Time to Die (1985) and Oedipus Mayor, whose premiere was in 1996 under a cast led by Jorge Perugorría, Jairo Camargo and Marcela Agudelo.

The fact is that Triana's connection with literature dates back to earlier times, having very close encounters with great exponents of Latin American literature -adding also the fact that he was a close friend of Gabo-; to this, he added in El Colombiano that Mario Vargas Llosa was one of them with the theatrical adaptations of Pantaleón and visitors, and La fiesta del chivo, but Gabo has generated a special connection in him.

He also pointed out in the media that Colombia has been a static country: its problems retain their structure as the decades pass, something that, paradoxically, has benefited literature and the theatrical performances themselves, and an example of this can not only be seen in 'The Colonel has no one to write to him', but in other exhibitions such as 'History of a Sheep', which recounts the never-ending situation of internal migration and forced displacement.
