Universitario de Deportes does not live its best days so far this season, as it lost to its classic rival, Alianza Lima, and also, as a result of the heavy defeat, the players and technical command were 'visited' by the club's barristas in an act that happily it didn't happen to grown-ups. In that sense, Santiago Acasiete spoke about these issues and the difficult time that the club is going through in Liga 1.
“It is a difficult situation, a difficult moment, hard, because in the University sports it was not good. Without taking credit for Alianza, which deserved to win, but it is a matter of giving it time and the players are aware of the moment they are going through and the idea is to continue working with Araujo,” said the former footballer in an interview for Radio Ovación.
And it is that in this crucial meeting, the 'creams' were largely surpassed by the 'blue and whites'. In fact, in the first 30 minutes they were already down on the scoreboard by 2 to 0 with Jairo Concha's double. Then, by the second half, they got to react and got into the match with Pablo Míguez's own goal after a great play by Iván Santillán. However, Arley Rodríguez and Hernán Barcos finished declaring the rout.
Practically, the 'intimate' draw won all the individual duels it played and overwhelmed its rival, who in much of the match felt the pressure to go below the scoreboard and not know how to reverse the situation. In addition, the presence of the fans at the Monumental Stadium caused nervousness and tension to take hold in the 'merengues' footballers. All this led to the dismissal of coach Álvaro Gutiérrez, who could not find the way for the team.
LOW LEVEL OF UNIVERSITY
Precisely, the former Peruvian national team acknowledged that the level of the squad in general has been very low, not only that of his central defenders such as Nelinho Quina and Federico Alonso, who were criticized. “The issue of the central players in Universitario, they are still good players. What happens is that you have to look for variants, people who squeeze them so that they don't lower the level. But it's not just them, the team in general was not good,” said the player who was a 'U' player in 2022, when he won the Apertura.
To complement this information, Acasiete added that Universitario lost its gaming identity and that the results they have achieved have been more on the part of some individuals, rather than due to a good functioning of the team. “University was not good in the collective issue. I was surprised that at home he defends and seeks the counterattack, it is not the style of University. From there he has obtained results sometimes for individual issues but in the collective he was not doing the right to not suffer so much and then comes the classic that opens up the range of problems for you”, commented the champion of the Copa and Recopa Sudamericana with Cienciano.
OPTIONS TOWARDS THE TITLE
However, 'Santi' does not think that the championship is finished for the Ate entity, since his position in the table (sixth place) allows him to continue dreaming of fighting for the Apertura Tournament. “It's 5 points away (from the first position), it's not far away. If he starts to add up to 3, he will get closer and he will be up there fighting. I don't see it that complicated on the chart. It's just a matter of time, of working well and for the players to know how important it is for them to be among the top positions,” he added.
BARRISTAS ADMISSION TO CAMPOMAR
Finally, the defender of the Peruvian national team spoke about the invasion of the barristas' creams' to Campomar's training, where although there were no physical aggressions, such as recently mentioned by the administrator Jean Ferrari, it is an issue that should not be neglected. “I haven't been through a moment like this but it is already customary for the fans to go to places that do not belong to them. The leadership must put a little order and a strong hand. The player always goes out to win, to achieve goals, and I know that in the 'U' there is a high pressure for wanting to be champions, but all in good time. Let's hope that the leaders will take action on the matter,” he said.
