A replica of the emblematic Sistine Chapel, a physical estancia located in Vatican City and considered one of the greatest artistic riches that exists around the world, opened its doors this morning to the public in the Zócalo in Mexico City, as announced by the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
The capital's president took advantage of her social networks to invite the general public to visit this work of art completely free of charge, which will be exhibited for a month in the heart of CDMX.
“Today at 10:00 in the morning the Sistine Chapel opens its doors for a month,” Claudia Sheinbaum wrote through her Twitter account.
According to information from the CDMX government, the time for visitors to get to know it will be from 10 a.m. to 6:40 p.m. However, because admission is completely free, the Head of Government suggested making an appointment to “not stand in line”.
How to make an appointment?
*Claudia Sheinbaum stated that citizens will be able to make their appointment through the following website. Here.
With the aim of promoting culture in the City, this great work by the artist Michelangelo, Pietro Perugino, Sandro Botticelli, Cosimo Roselli, among others, will be on display until approximately May 21, as the promise is for one month.
The inauguration and opening is in charge of the CDMX government, the Secretariat of Culture and the Joint Fund for Tourism Promotion, in coordination with the Vatican Museums and the Primate Archdiocese of Mexico.
In order for citizens to enjoy this replica, which is personally found in Rome, at least 300 people are expected to enter every 20 minutes, according to organizers.
The Sistine Chapel, considered a world heritage site, is preserved throughout the centuries by the Apostolic See and for the first time in history as an example to the people of Mexico.
As a form of recognition, this Chapel, located in Rome, Italy, is where the Conclave takes place, that is, the world meeting of cardinals with the purpose of electing a pope. We must even remember that this selection of a new pope is made known to the world through the white smoke that emanates from this Chapel.
For this reason, visiting the Sistine will be considered as an act of new experiences, since the recreation of this cultural space in a natural size will be known.
In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which continues to affect hundreds of people in the country, and because their representation is in a closed space, health protocols will be in place for their safety.
In this way, it was announced that before entering, the correct use of masks and healthy distance will be verified. In addition, an exclusive entrance space will be set up for people with disabilities, older adults and pregnant women.
The monumental estancia is located in Plaza de la Constitución S/N in Mexico City. The nearest stations to get to downtown CDMX are Pino Suárez and Zócalo on Metro Line 2, which runs from Cuatro Caminos to Tasqueña.
