On Thursday, April 21, it became known that the Public Prosecutor's Office asked the 11th Judge of Knowledge of Bogotá to sentence businessman Carlos Mattos to 63 months in prison for bribing Judge Ligia del Carmen Hernández so that the company he was the head of could come out well in several court cases against him.
The request came after Mattos accepted charges in the trial for the crime of bribery for giving or offering bribes. According to Blu Radio, the Prosecutor's Office left in the hands of the judge the reduction in sentence that the businessman could have.
On the other hand, the Attorney General's Office said that Mattos's sentence should be 48 months and on the side of the businessman's lawyer, Ómar Suárez, he asked the judge not to exceed 32 months in prison.
He also asked the judge to transfer his defendant to Barranquilla, where he lived before the scandal.
“I take advantage of the call for charges against the crime of bribery. This search is consensual and informed and analyzed by me, so there is no possibility of expressing that there is any restriction or that I am being misled in the face of the legal consequences that I am assuming today before his office,” Mattos said.
At the time of accepting charges, Mattos said that the Public Prosecutor's Office had to take into account his status as a Spanish citizen in order to charge crimes, which he said did not exist in the Iberian country.
For now, the 11th Judge of Knowledge revealed that the judgment reading hearing will be held on June 7 at 9:00 a.m.
But this is not the only court decision to be taken against the Colombian-Spanish businessman, because on Friday, April 22, Judge 30 of Knowledge of Bogotá will issue a sentence and reveal how many years in prison he will have to serve for the bribe of former judge Reinaldo Huertas for $700 million.
In this case, the Prosecutor's Office requested a sentence of 95 months in prison. It will already be a judge of execution of sentence who will make the final decision on the entire period that Mattos must remain in jail after the two sentences against him have been handed down.
The money that former businessman Carlos Mattos agreed to give to the account of the Executive Directorate of the Judicial Administration received the money that former businessman Carlos Mattos agreed to provide compensation to the Judiciary for damages caused by judicial corruption in the Hyundai Case. The syndicate paid $3,731,310,000, which were drawn in three parts: a payment of $2.5 billion; a second draft for $1 billion and the third for $231,310,000.
“By this contract the parties agree to terminate out of court any judicial dispute that may arise from these facts and precaution any dispute”, reads in the contract that supports the payment of compensation.
Thus, with the agreement and payment of what has been agreed, the parties affected by the crimes committed by Mattos refuse to open other legal proceedings against them for damages and declare themselves reparated for the damage caused.
Anonymous sources revealed that the businessman signed the agreement from the Cómbita prison (Boyacá), where he has been held since March 2, when he was transferred because it was discovered that he had abused the benefits granted to him by the authorities in the prison. Among the irregularities, Mattos blew himself out of La Picota prison on several occasions.
