Optional use of masks: What are the cities that will govern the new measure?

Aníbal Torres chaired a new meeting of the Council of Ministers and confirmed that in some cities it will no longer be mandatory to wear masks in open spaces.

The Minister of Health, Jorge López, announced this Wednesday during the session of the Council of Ministers that the use of masks in open places and in some regions of the country was suspended . The minsa head was emphatic in stating that this measure is only for places that have exceeded 80% vaccination.

The restriction on masks is being removed in public places, in departments that have passed 80% in their third dose, in which we have Lima, Callao, Lima Province, Ica and Áncash. People who want to wear masks will be able to wear masks,” said the Minister of Health, Jorge López.

This announcement was endorsed by the president of the Council of Ministers, Aníbal Torres, who argued that this will be optional and that each person will deliberate whether or not to use them in these open spaces.

“It has been agreed that in places where 80% or more have been vaccinated with the three doses, 80% or more, the use of the mask is optional. Those who want to use it and those who do not want to use it, in places open to the public,” said Anibal Torres.

Torres indicated that Metropolitan Lima and Callao will be regions in which the use of the protective element is suspended; however, in both places 80% of the target population with third doses are still not reached.

Before this measure is taken, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) assured that although more than 50% of the target population have been vaccinated with the third dose against COVID-19, the population must continue to comply with prevention measures, such as wearing a mask, washing hands, among others.

Recall that a few days ago, Minister Jorge López, indicated that he expects 80% of the target population to have their third dose against coronavirus (COVID-19) to evaluate the elimination of the mandatory use of the mask in open spaces, as occurs in countries such as Chile and Spain.
