The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García, announced that as of Sunday, April 24, the use of masks in closed spaces will no longer be mandatory in the entity, thanks to the decrease in COVID-19 infections, he said at a press conference.

However, this measure will not apply to certain spaces, such as schools, nursing homes, hospitals, nurseries, airports, public transport, bus stations and nurseries.

This was endorsed by the Nuevo León Health Safety Committee, which notified the state president and the entity's Secretary of Health, Alma Rosa Marroquín, of this new implementation with a single guideline: to continue urging the population to be vaccinated.

In addition, García Sepulveda celebrated that they have been at the epidemiological green traffic light for 7 consecutive weeks, of which the last three recorded the lowest levels of COVID-19 in Nuevo León.

Likewise, he stressed that more than 90% of people from Leon are already vaccinated (without specifying without the complete scheme), in addition to having a minimum number of infections and between 3 and 4 people hospitalized in mechanical ventilation, said the state governor.

This decree will be published on Friday, April 22, so that it will enter into force two days after its publication. For her part, Rosa Marroquín pointed out that with a cut to April 20, Nuevo León has recorded 470,763 cases of COVID-19 and 16,212 deaths.

It was on March 13 that the mandatory use of the mask in open spaces was eliminated in the entity, so that each citizen has the option of using it or not; however, the state health secretary recommended that pregnant women continue to implement this health measure in a particular way.
