Music, circus and dance in Chapultepec: activities to enjoy the weekend

El Bosque de Chapultepec celebrates the Carcamo Festival and the World Book Day Festival this weekend

The Ministry of Culture of Mexico City together with the National Center for the Arts, the Los Pinos Cultural Complex, the Ministry of Environment, the Museum of Natural History and Environmental Culture organized several outdoor activities in the Chapultepec Forest: the Cárcamo Festival and the Celebration of the World Book Day.

The Cárcamo Festival will take place in two venues, at Cenart and on the Esplanade la Fuente de Tlaloc in the second section of Chapultepec. After the Covid-19 pandemic, the project is seeking to reactivate the Cárcamo Dolores as a space for cultural activities. Admission will be completely free and for all age groups.

A curious fact is that the Tlaloc Fountain is a huge 30-meter pool with a sculpture of the god of rain inside it. The so-called Water Garden Museum was created between 1950 and 1952 by the Mexican artist Diego Rivera. Recently, this fountain was subjected to a conservation process carried out by the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature.

Activities of the Esplanade of the Tlaloc Fountain Saturday 23 April

At 12 pm with a jazzy concert of the Rag-time Trio.

Male trio consisting of: Roberto Blanco on the Hammod organ and electric piano; Aarón Cruz on electric bass and Gabriel Puentes on drums.

At 1 pm there will be a show of the Circus of Collective Intervention.

Acrobats, jugglers, dancers, spitfire, stilts, actors and musicalization.

At 2 pm jazzy singer Jenny Beaujen will be performing.

He currently hosts the program “Ejazz”, on Radio Horizonte and shared the stage with Armando Manzanero, Aleks Syntek, Leonel Polar and Natalia Lafourcade.

At 3 pm The Swing Sisters will take the stage to perform jazzy hits.

Female vocal trio consisting of: Aly Orizaga, director and second voice; Ammy Romo, first voice and Danna Iturbide, third voice.

World Book Day activities at the entrance of the Lions Gate Saturday, April 23

From 11 am to 3 pm in the first section of the Chapultepec Forest, free books will be distributed to children and it is estimated that a total of 10,000 books will be delivered. At the same time, the opening of the Lions Library will take place with the following activities:

- 12 pm Presentation of Pepe Frank

- 1 pm Talk with Jaime Alfonso Sandoval, author of: Fernando's Ghosts

Activities of the Cárcamo Dolores Sunday, April 24

At 12 pm the show Biography Pintada de un circus will begin with Jorge Díaz as author and director.

At 12:45pm there will be a show with music, actors, jugglers, puppets and dance by Antonio Garduño.

At 1 pm Amanda Tovalin and the Trino String Ensemble will perform to offer a jazzy concert.

Concert with original music by the Mexican singer-songwriter, violinist and producer, Amanda is considered one of the most innovative national musical proposals in recent years.

At 2 pm the music presentation of the Viri Roots & Rootskers will arrive.

The instrumentation includes a Washboard, Kazoo and Ukulele, as well as guitar and harmonicas, as well as the vocals of Viri Roots.

At 3 pm there will be a futuristic retro dance of The Little Prince.

This adaptation relates the value of friendship, love and loss through movement, as well as the use of Mexican sign language.

At 4 pm the festival closes with the appearance of The Hot Brothers, a jazzy quartet.
